Oil dipstick tube installed with serp belt brackets.

For those of you running a 5.0 with Serp belt, how did you do it?  I drilled my bracket as close as I could get it to the nearest bracket mounting bolt that would interfere with the tube. Of course I had to bend the tube slightly. Now I can't get the dipstick in the tube.  Is there another tube I could use?  Thanks.

Re: Oil dipstick tube installed with serp belt brackets.

When I has the supercharged set-up in the car I had the same problem. I could not get the dip stick to go the last little bit, it seemed to be hitting something in the pan. I found a dip stick in my pile that was made of cable and had a rounded end. It would slide past the obstruction. I modified it to be the same length from the cap to the full mark as the stock one and it worked great. I can't remember what it was from since it was in a pile of them I had removed from ? Maybe someone knows of one like that you may get to work.  Good luck!

Re: Oil dipstick tube installed with serp belt brackets.

On my paw-in-law's 5.0 conversion we used an aftermarket alternator mount (I think they were March brand) that left space for the stock dipstick tube to come up beside the alternator like it did on the old v-belt setups.  This also eliminated the automatic tensioner, but the aftermarket mount had a turnbuckle type tensioner.

Thanks, I'll check both Locar and March to see what they offer. Part of problem might be the Chinese dipstick & tube.

As I recall, my 97 F150, 4.6 2-cammer had a cable type dip stick....just info.

Re: Oil dipstick tube installed with serp belt brackets.

Great idea on the cable type dipstick.
On my 427 stroker, the dipstick had to have a bend placed at the bottom end to help it clear the baffle in the oil pan.
Doesn't show while driving, though!
