BulletBob.......didn't you advance the cam timing on your "other-wise stock 5.0 engine.?"
Did it boost the low end? Did it make a "seat-of-the-pants improvement?"
Could you see any change in fuel mileage?
Anyone else want to add comments on the benefits of advancing/retarding cam timing?

I advanced my cam when I built my 5.0 with stock HO cam. I can't tell you if there is any noticable diffference before and after because I never had this setup in my car but I love the throttle response and low end torque and overall drivability of my car.
I'd do it again.

Mike, You really need to market a VVT kit for the pushrod windsors.
Then you get the best of advanced and retared cams.

Yeah,right!
One thing for sure. With the VVT wouldn't have the problem of TOO big of valve will make low end soggy.....TOO small will choke off the top end. Just let the valve(intakeORexhaust) hang open a little longer or close a little sooner.....
BUTT.....that would take the "old skool" out of the equation. Everybody would be driving a Honder or Ke-err! What fun is that? Who needs max performance AND superior fuel mileage?! BOOOOORING!!

I believe the next "camshaft" technology will result in... NO CAMSHAFT. Valves will be opened electrically and then you can program it for Saturday night at the drags or Sunday go to church...
In my new 427, Keith Craft Racing installed the cam 4 degrees advanced. I will let you know if there is any "seat of the pants" difference between it and the old 351 that had the cam installed straight up...

Last time I wnet into my engine I advanced the cam 6* and I THINK it gave a little more bottom end.(at least that's what "THEY CLAIM") could have been wishful thinking butt...seemed that way to me.
When I get my engine dyno! then I'll know for sure.
According to the "other pros" advancing a cam almost ALWAYS make a diff.
