I hate my Mustang!!!

Worked MOST OF THE DAY putting in ONE rear quarter window in my 66.
At the end of the day......window was NOT in! Man! those window installs are tough!
Can't see up close with out my glasses so every time I tried to look up or around or anything critical.......my glasses fell down! Also....how can a person lose a ratchet inside a car(backseat area) when you JUST laid it down a second ago?!!!
After it finally got sooo dark I couldn't see....I rolled everything up and called it a day.......
Closed the passenger side door and..........door lock jam/malfunctioned or something now the door won't open!!!
Oh well....while putting car cover back on car...I half tore a fingernail off........Great....just great!

Re: I hate my Mustang!!!

I just got a Mustang Monthly magazine yesterday that had a complete writeup on how to install rear quarter windows!
I feel you pain, sal. Windows are just a pain.

On a somewhat related note, yesterday I installed anew door weatherstrip on my Ram truck. I used factory seals. All the interior pieces snapped righ out and the seal went right on and fit perfect, then snapped everything right back. Total time was 12 minutes.

Tomorrow is a new day. Try it again then.

When I can't find something, I try to look in both hands first, if I can remember cause part of the time, that's where it's at!!

Re: I hate my Mustang!!!

Sal,
I can empathize with you. Sorry you had a bad day, but hang in there. Seems like every time I try to fix something it tends to go the same way your day did. I totally understand what you have to deal with regarding the glasses too. Since I am just up the road from you in NC, I will say at least it is not summer and your glasses are falling off and sweat is not running into your eyes burning like crazy. That is usually how it goes for me.

Re: I hate my Mustang!!!

Hey Mike I feel your pain!
I'm a bit older than you but have had the very same issues for a lot longer.
I can give you a couple of hints. Get a pair of vocational bifocals. The ones I get have regular vision at the center, reading length focus on the bottom bifocals and arms length focusing on the top of the lens. I find these glasses a boon when working under the car and situations where you ordinarily have to crank your head back to see up or at a weird angle.
The other problem I have seeing is not enough light. I use one of those LED head band lights plus a high wattage lamp stand where I can position the lights at the area where I am working.
As far as your fingernail I'm afraid I don't have any advice other than use the safety skills you learned working in the industrial setting.
Usually when in a frustrating situation it's best to step away and get a fresh start the next day.

Re: I hate my Mustang!!!

I think I know where your ratchet is.... Jammed in your door!   Ripping a finger nail off sucks! This past summer I got my left index finger and nail with a grinder cut off wheel. I thought for sure i cut my finger off. Got lucky and just cut the crap out of my finger and cut my finger nail in half...good times.

Re: I hate my Mustang!!!

Sal,

I'm confused about a couple of things.  Either Murhy has a twin brother, or he has found a way to be in two places at the same time.

It is unclear what you consider a problem.  Sounds like a typical day around my barn.  As for the fingernail, you will find that several adult beverages, taken orally, will ease the pain.  Exercise some restraint, though.  Too many adult beverages will delay the pain but can move it fron the finger to the cranium.  Actually, I'm beginning to experience some sympathy pains with you now, so I'll go get a couple bottles of pain killer, myself.
Cheers
Al

I'm a bit cornfused, Al.  If not orally, how else would you consider taking adult beverage?  There are only two optional methods that come to mind and while intravenously is a possibility and would provide the pain killing effect, it would seem to spoil all the fun.  The second option...well, if I had to take it that way I think I'd just do without. And while we're on the subject, please bring that beautiful vert, and Mrs. Al Newman, to the bash.  There is only one short section of road that might bother you.  The rest is just plain spectacular.  And, we all want to meet Mrs. Al, and see that Vert...and see you again too, of course. BB

Re: I hate my Mustang!!!

Sal- I'm assuming you got your Mustang back from paint. What color? Pics?

Re: I hate my Mustang!!!

Yeah..........got it back and I'm pretty darn happy with it.  A little darker than I thought it would be  butt the body work is super  so no "bondo shadows" or nearly invisible lumps to show through a dark paint job. I had the Shelby stripes painted red butt they are "ghost-ish) so not in your face. Got the idea for red from looking at the red hood I formally had on it. Drove it that way for several months and red sorta grew on me. Got the hood from ole' Dummernhell that posts on here occasionally.
ANYHOW!!!!!!.....Got the rear window(S) in and they work great.
NOW....anybody got any good tips about putting on new door handles and hook'in up?  Gotta fix that ornery door lock too.
I need details and maybe some pictures/drawings.
That hook up of the rods has me worried because I took'em apart a looooong time ago.

Re: I hate my Mustang!!!

That's how stuff goes working on old cars.  Everything takes 2-10x longer than anticipated.  Nothing wants to come apart, and everything has an alignment to it because tolerances were so sloppy back then.

Hey, a bad day working on your Mustang still beats a good day at work though, right?  I know where I'd rather be.  Like most things in life there's no problem that the correct amount of alcohol cannot solve.  Tomorrow's a new day, maybe a groggy, sickly feeling day, but a new day nonetheless.
