I am that guy. I have 17 x 7 TTM's on the front, 4.5" backspace, on my 66 fastback. They fit fine. I do have the inner fender lips rolled. I have about the same amount of clearance I had when I was running 15 x 7 Torq Thrust D's. I had to roll the fender lips for the D's.

'66 Coupe running TT M 17x8's 4.5BS with 245/45s front & rear. Fender lips are rolled but I could probably have got away without rolling the fronts. But then I'm also running an aftermarket coilover with adjustable strut rods and lower control arm camber kit and the upper arms are a hair shorter than stock as adjusted and I've got no alignment shims. I haven't fully dialed the alignment though and might end up with a shim or two to get the caster set just right side to side with the tire looking right in the wheelwell front to back. Was going to do that today but got sucked into do doing some plumbing & electrical work on a friend's bathroom re-model instead - sheesh. Was a perfect day here for working on the car too.
Anyway, drove it around a bit before rolling the lips and wasn't getting any rubbing up front but the Arning/Shelby drop helps with that as it pretty much eliminates positive camber gain pushing the top of the tire into the fender as the suspension compresses. On the Interwebs there are a lot of folks that claim to be running this tire/wheel combo on the front of '65/66 cars without rolled fenders, stock control arms and just the Shelby drop and I think it would probably work but then each of these cars is a little different so your mileage may vary. Moving the camber adjustment to the lower control arms with a camber kit can help get rid of shims at the upper arm so you can move the top of the tire further into the wheelwell with the stock arms - still best to do the Shelby drop TOO as it's a practically free big improvement for lot's of reasons.
In the back though the 17x8 with same rubber on the stock axle necessitated rolling the lips - that's where I was getting the rub - the lip back there is wider with a couple of 'tabs' that stick out even further. It looked like it was the tabs that were the problem, might have gotten away with just cutting those off but there still wouldn't have been a lot of room for getting over high driveways & such when the rear end can do stuff that's pretty darn unnatural looking.

Excellent info. My 65 already has the Shelby drop with 620 springs... I was running 235/45/17s on my other rims and now I am very curious about running the 245s..... Let the fun begin...
