I was trying to get to 100,000 miles before changing the brake pads, but it started grinding pretty bad the other day at 94,000 miles, so it was time for brakes.
Today's progress so far:
Two new rear rotors
Rear Hawk brake pads
Installed 1/2" longer wheel studs (that Harbor Freight ball joint removal tool worked like a charm)
Installed 1/2" wheel spacers
Installed Eibach lowering springs
Installed koni shocks
On the front end:
New Koni strut and Eibach lowering springs
Longer wheel studs
1/2" wheel spacers
GT500 upper strut mounts (wasted $100, they are same part number as what was on it from Ford)
GT500 14" Brembo brakes
Only got the right front done, so LF is for tomorrow morning. Can't wait to drive it.
I discovered something that no one has ever spoken about. On the upper strut mounts, you can rotate the mounting plate 180 degrees to add 2 degrees positive caster. Doing that moves the upper strut out about 1/4". Since my car had some negative caster and was wearing the tires, and lowering it requires adding some caster, this might just work out perfectly. I bought the Eibach camber adjusting bolts just in case.
And I also modified my right front fender with a big 'ol scratch, right up near the headlight. I guess a paint job is next...
I also have a new fan serpentine belt, a new belt tensioner, a new set of injectors, and some lower ball joints, and some heavier duty rear control arms off a Brembo coupe. I am waiting until I can get the car on the lift to do the control arms and ball joints. So far, all work has been done on jackstands, sitting on my roll-away stool.
I wonder how long the radiator and heater hoses will last? Anyone ever have a late model hose failure?

I'd say 94,000 miles on a set of brakes is pretty darn good. Must be a lot of highway miles unless you're never going faster than 5mph.

Bummer about the new custom bodywork though.

On my '92 5.0 I put on those light blue Hi-miler hoses. That was 1998 when the car had about 35,000 miles on it. The car is now at 261,000 miles and the hoses are still good.
If you want to find out how long those factory hoses will go just carry a spare set in the trunk until you find out.
