I am trying to remove the stock backup light bulbs from their sockets. Boy those are puny little bulbs! No wonder the incandescent backup lights are worthless. Anyway, they are being obstinate. The inside of the housing is conical so there is no room to get a firm grip on the bulb. I know that you need to press in on the bulb but it has been 34 years since I installed them and I do not remember which way to turn them to release and remove them. I do not want to press so hard that I break the bulb and lacerate my fingers.
Someone have recent experience with this? It may be universal but I do not have any other fixtures at hand to observe.
btw, I am going installing Mustang Project/Scott Drake 100 LED bulb light assemblies.
They should be relative flame throwers compared to the stock bulbs.

I use a short length of heater hose and press it against the bulb while pushing and turning it to get it out . Also hit the socket with a shot of WD40 to help loosen it.
Don't forget to use some dielectric grease on the bulb base when putting the new bulb in.

cut a piece of heater hose (or any hose that will fit) and use that to push and turn left, that way if bulb breaks you won't cut your fingers.
Guess I was too late

Good idea on the hose but which direction do you turn it? These light assy's were brand new OEM fixtures 34 years ago and have seen virtually no weather to corrode them. I'll still give them a squirt of WD40.

Got it! The hose made it easy to experiment. Push in and turn left to remove. Thanks Rudi and bad !
DiElectric grease is a great idea, also.

Hey Boom.......push in and turn left!
It also helps to pull back on the wires and it releases some of the spring tension holding the bulb firm. Look close and you can see (on the sides) a little L-shaped indention the two barbs on the bulbs slide into.
Side note:
My "re-inventing of the wheel idea" about using 1157 bulbs and wiring it so BOTH elements light up.....looks like Mustangs Unlimited/Scott Drake beat me to it! Got my new housings and they came with blubz. blk/white wires when hooked up AND grounded to body....both elements light up. Pretty durn bright!

Hope to butt... I'm worried about a big software upgrade that we're doing in July. I'm hopefull, but can't make plans at this point. It would be great if Sal could come by and we could caravan.
