tremec 5 speed shift problem

My friend bought a 302 crate engine and a 5 sp. from a ford motorsport dealer and had it installed in his 83 Lx conv.
The trans. shifts smooth normally, but trying to power shift (or speed shift) it just won't go into gear and a lot of grinding happens. He is willing to buy another trans. if that is what it takes. Is this typical of this trans. or is there an underlying problem?  With my 4sp toploader you could speed shift with just a tap of the clutch a hardly notice the RPM change, This is what he is looking for in a transmission. what do you think?

Why is there never enough time to do it right, but always time to do it over!

Re: tremec 5 speed shift problem

First, suggest to post this in the "Tech Discussion" segment, you'll get more responses.
I also have at T5 (WC model) and no problems shifting.  I'd first check clutch adjustment, sounds like the clutch is not fully disengaging.  Maybe the pedal is not being depressed enough to disengage the clutch, or clutch plate isn't sliding on the transmission, or the synchronizers are not functioning properly.  A good source for T5 info is 5speeds.com.
