Doesn't look like it's going to be easy and with those two big dents in the DS I'd doubt that it's balanced anymore. I'd measure it center of cap to center of cap and either find one on CL or fleabay for <$100 or order one through Speedway, Summit or hit your local DS shop for a price. That one looks like more headache an $ to be balanced than it's worth.

I'd wait and measure once the 8" is in and mounted to get the right length, pinion could end up closer or farther then you've waisted $ on a DS that's too long/short.

yep, have to agree.........that DS needs to be replaced.......accident waiting to happen so, be safe and replace it.

If it was just the welds to be ground off, it would be fixable.  The dents kill the deal, though.  You need to replace it, AND get the right u-joint this time!

A good driveline shop can build you an exact fit driveshaft with the right parts and balanced to boot.  Some (many) things in a car shouldl not be a compromise.
