TKO-600 Gears

I am currently running a TKO 600 trans with  3:27  1st  , 1:98  2nd  , 1:34  3rd ,  1:00  4th ,  :68 OD 5th.  Does anybody know if I can change the gears in this trans to get a closer ratio? Thanks

Re: TKO-600 Gears

I believe they do make close ratio gears and also the overdrive gear changes as well.  At least it was a choice when I was ordering my TKO 600.  I wanted the best highway gear so got the .68 OD.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: TKO-600 Gears

Sounds like you want a first gear closer to the second gear.   3.27 is way too short.   This should work:

Re: TKO-600 Gears

Thanks guys- My trans has the 10 spline input. Got it from Keisler about 10 years ago. I think they went bankrupt or were bought. At the time they were the big deal Tremec honchos .I'd like to just change gearsets so I don't have to change the clutch setup.

Re: TKO-600 Gears

For all things Tremec call Bob Hanlon at Hanlon Motorsports.  Here's his website:

Bob's an awesome guy who knows Tremecs very, very well.  If it can be done and parts are available he can get them and will know.  I'm guessing this is a costly change though.  You're talking about 1st, 2nd, and 3rd as well as the cluster, because the ratios are different.  The input shaft should be fine.  Then its up to you if you want to swap the 5th gearset.  I can't seem to find gear pricing anywhere online, probably because breaking a 600 is pretty rare.  If you're going to rebuild along with your swap ask Bob about the friction lined synchros he sells.  They make shifting a lot better in Tremecs, which are not know for smooth shifts.

Thanks TKO. I didn't know about them. I'll give them a buzz.
