Anybody have trouble with the interior lacquer paint? It just seems to scratch super easy even after curing for a long time. It is the accumatch brand that everyone sells. As an example, the ash tray....I have painted it and stripped it back down twice. It cured for a month and then I just rubbed the softest cloth across it and you can tell it shows very light scratches. Worse thing is, my color is black. Am I just expecting too much?

Why Lacquer?!

All the interior paints you buy from various mustang vendors are lacquers.

I used 2k base and clear in satin finish in rattle can. No scratches...yet.

Everything I've ever painted on my interior I've used semi-gloss black enamel from a rattle can. I painted my engine compartment the same way, and after over 20 years most of that still looks good too. Its quite durable. Its not a 100 point show car, so I don't really care if it the "right" black or not, but I'm sure its close. I would assume professional restoration shops aren't using lacquer either. I would bet they color match the paint in enamel and shoot it with a spray gun. There's a reason why the OEMs don't use lacquer anymore. Enamel is a better paint.

The correct 64-73 Charcoal Black Metallic paint in rattle cans is very prone to scratching because it's lacquer based.
I used a black epoxy primer under it to lessen the noticeability of the scratches.
In hind site I would just go with a paint that is more durable but not concours correct.
