1965 Interior door panel clips - some with foam pads some without. What is the reason for the two different clips and do the clips with foam pads get used in any specific area on the door panel?
Any good tips on installation of the door panel? How are the watershield attached?
Pretty basic stuff for most but I would like to get it right.
Thanks!

weatherstrip is held in place by "strip caulk" type material.........
not sure of the foam on the clips unless it was an upgrade to reduce rattles.....I've taken dozens of panels off and don't recall seeing the foam....that's not to say it wasn't there....could have turned to dust over the years when subject to years of heat, etc
install tips: go slow....make sure you have each clip lined up and semi-started in the cooresponding hole....use you hand to steadliy push in the clip....don't wack on it or you could cut thru the vinyl covering....ask me how i know....
others much smarter than me will probably be along soon with more help

The foam yes is for rattles it was on my 64 1/2 can't remember. If you put some in corners and middle section you'd be ok but most interior guys don't even use foam ones

I'd mostly seen the foam tabs on old origional pony panels. Little 3/8" or so squares to assist holding the door clips in position.
Rick, I've just set the panels in position aligning the clip wire endsin their respective holes. The pop the clips into the doors witth the heel of your hand.

I struggled to put my new door panels on when using the old clips. I would get most of them in and then fight with one. Once I replaced all the clips with new ones, they popped right on. The clips were inexpensive and I think I got them at O'reilly's. The ones I bought did not have foam and I have no rattles, in the door panels anyway.
Good luck

to install watershields get a roll of 1/4" butyl tape at the auto parts store. I used Strip Calk and was less than pleased. The butyl tape is really sticky. The Strip Calk gets stuck together in the package and is hard to apply. The butyl can easily be laid out and the watershield attached to it.

There are different clips for standard door panels and pony interior door panels. Not sure what the difference is.
Those tyvek envelopes the post office has work great for watershields and are free. I have not done this, but some anonymous person told me about it... in case the post office is reading this...
