Cable came apart on me. Didn't even really put pressure on it either...sitting in car (without seat) and put my hand on the pedal to feel for pedal engagement...gave it a little push to see if I could get clutch action and apart it came.

Seems it was not swaged in.
Counter sink the big end , shove the cable through it, fray the cable and draw it back into the fitting and silver solder the frayed cable to the fitting filling the counter sink with the solder.. It will never pull out again

Is this English?
I get shoving the cable through.
I think I get 'fray' the cable...basically pull it all apart
Silver Solder?
Isn't this thing supposed to have been crimped?
Can I shove it in my shop press and just collapse it a little?

I think 'whoever' missed a step on the assembly line. That cable end is not even disturbed.

I have used that kind of crimped fix at job and if well done it will last ... But seems to be something went wrong .
You can see 6 face pressed As should be but is not enough . if you press it flat will not work .
Weld it or solder with lead ( silver ) will not work ( in my opinion ) due to : wire made of steel and crimped fix zinc plated .
For my two cent find another solution or try to find who use that kind of crimp .

The photo with the pressed marks is a random internet photo....the one below shows close up of what I have

So I worked the cable back into the end plug
And smooshed it over a little bit.....
And then put it back in.....was able to press the clutch pedal down once....the second time it came apart on me.
At this point I'm just going to assume bad part and I suppose order a replacement.
The alignment all looks good under the dash. It's straight on into the bell housing.
What can I use to confirm clutch linkages in bell all work as planned and depress the clutch from under the car just to make sure I'm not somehow too tight on the clutch/stuck on something.

......with silver solder, that would have never come apart but if adequately crimped, it wouldn't either.

solder is one of this things/tools I've never put in the garage. I almost bust out the welder and put a tack on it but changed my mind because I didn't want to risk deforming the end cap. Really nothing I can do now but drink this beer.

Send me your address and will send a new cable.

Yes my post is in English it is one of Canada's official languages, perhaps south of the Mason/ Dixon line it looses some thing in translation to American English.
Actually silver solder is NOT a solder it a silver braze. Brazing uses a higher temperature.
In that photo of the " smooshed end" (up here we call it fraying), you should have "silver brazed" it, then the cable would not have pulled out again, ever.
In my bike racing days one of the first things I did to a new bike was to redo every cable fitting with "silver braze", after that there was never a cable failure due to the cable pulling out of a cable end. Back in the day all bike cables were done with regular lead/tin solder and the attrition rate was really bad.

Is it really necessary to insult all the southerners on this forum just because one southerner was snarky to you?
There are a lot of very intelligent people south of the Mason/Dixon line.

Not to be insulting or condescending.... but you realize that's a negative term, right? At least where I'm from it is.

LOL.....I'm a Yank who moved to the south. I say it tongue in cheek all the time. Words only have power if you let them. During the restoration the northerners who went south to seek their fortunes helping to rebuild after the Civil war were called carpetbaggers.....some were good honest hard working people, others were crooks. The term was applied universally.

Sheesh, calm yourself down sonny, my post was all meant in jest, this place is not as serious as you think it is. Ribbing and jerking someones chain is quite the norm here, as I am sure the OP knows me well enough to realise that..

Fair enough. I just took you the wrong way. I guess I get a little defensive about it because many people assume that we're dumb just because we talk slow.

Well Michael, if intelligence is measured by speed of speech, then I am dumb as a rock.
