brake pedal

what is the distance from brake pedal  pivot point to thje stud the brake rod mounts on.I have a 1962 ford fairlane.I did the granada  disk brake conversion. I am not happy with the brake  pedal travel. the brakes work well but want  that new car feel.I have gotten a lot of info from this forum that has worked well on the fairlane. thank you

Re: brake pedal

62 Fairlane original pivot distance is 2" center to center.  What symptoms are you experiencing?

Manual Granada brakes should use a 74  Maverick 15/16" bore master cylinder. ( MustangSteve part number PB-6.4)

Re: brake pedal

Brake pedal angle could be off, especially since you are using a manual ratio pedal with a power booster.  Be sure the pedal does not travel past the point where its rod would have to push upward to activate the booster.  It needs to be pushing the booster on the pedal's downward stroke.

Check the booster output shaft to be sure it has no more than 0.010" movement before it contacts the master cylinder piston.

Be sure MC piston size is correct for your brakes.  Too large diameter MC piston will result in hard pedal that never achieves full pressure requirements to the brakes.  Too small piston will result in excessive pedal stroke and overboosted braking.

Rear drums must be adjusted properly or you will have too much pedal travel.

Re: brake pedal

To adjust the booster output shaft, remove the MC exposing the shaft.  Adjust the shaft to lengthen it until you can feel the MC rocking on the shaft when test fitted against the booster.  Then, make small adjustments to shorten the shaft, usually 1/4 turn at a time, until the MC no longer rocks on the shaft.  Then go 1/4 turn shorter.  That is usually just right.
