Hi Guys,
I was attempting to start a 69 Mach I with 351 4V after years of remaining idle. I was spraying WD40 into the cylinder heads using a plastic hose, however the hose fell off and dropped into the cylinder head. What are my options... remove the head or try starting the car?
Thanks,
Richard

You could run the piston to TDC and try fishing the plastic tube out with a small wire hook or a skinny pair of forceps or tweezers. Good luck.

Buy a bore scope, see where it is and extract it using mechanical "fingers". I bought a Milwaukee bore scope for I think $150 or less. Beats the hell out of pulling the head.

Bring the piston up so you can see the tube and use a straw or wire with a loop in the end with lots of grease on the end and fish it out....jj

I think one of those retractable finger claw tools might be your best friend in this situation. Available at any auto parts store.
Similar to this:

Ouch!! I feel for you...........
Did the same thing....sorta. Getting ready to fire an engine after some work and sprayed some Brakleen (I LOVE THIS STUFF!) down the throat of the carb. You guessed it....straw flew off and down the throat of the open carb......all the way to the floor of the intake!!
Had to pull the carb to get it out!
Roll your engine over(by hand) and the straw SHOULD be visible enough to grab with needle nose pliers.

Don't take my comment as gospel but I would bet dollars to donuts that that plastic tube would not hurt a thing. At worst it might distort the plug ground but otherwise would rapidly disintegrate an not hurt the cylinder walls, the valves or the piston.
All that being said, I would still try some of the ideas posted above before firing it up with the tube remaining in the cylinder.

I'm with boomyal... probably won't hurt anything, but I'd still try to get it out.
I don't remember when it was posted, but I think Gaba posted a cheap (like $14) borescope that attached to an android phone or tablet... cheap and could be helpful if you already have an android device.

Try this, just might work.
Piston at top with intake valve open.
Blow compressed air into the spark plug hole in the hopes it might blow the tube back into the intake manifold where you could grab it. I guess you have to know which cylinder it went to...
I am siding with boomyal that it probably won't hurt anything to just start the engine and let it work its way out or get consumed.

I am sorry you had this happen, so now is the time to do a PSA.
Prevent this from happening by getting a Hold-It! It is a silicone band that loops around the WD-40 can and the straw goes through it. Should the straw launch itself, it will be held from flying off by the Hold-it! It works on Brake clean and anything else that uses a straw.
*I am not affiliated with this product. The creator is a fellow Mustanger who got tired of the straw shooting off behind his mill at work and he invented this to stop it.

I got this for my Android and it works quite considering the low price.
Also, I agree with the other posts, if you can't get it out, it probably will not damage anything.

Thanks for the great info, I will try some of your suggestions, if I fail to get the tube out I'll start the engine and cross my fingers.
