Today is the day! Get a new Stang!

I'm in the lobby of the Residence Inn, and waiting for the kids to get showers and credit union to open so I can withdraw cash to pick up my new Stang.  Giddy with excitement!

instead of buying a rusty '69 Cougar, wife said: "I know you really want another Mustang, why not spend more and save in restoration costs?"  Save time, labor and money. Makes sense to me.

so I have pre negotiated a purchase of a 1966 coupe and going to lay eyes on it for first time (beyond pictures), and drive her home. Have tools and duct tape if needed for seven hour drive home. Wife and kids in the Honda odyssey van as support if needed.

will post pics later!

Re: Today is the day! Get a new Stang!

Reminds me of when I got mine. Flew to Vegas and bought it with wife in tow. We had fun. Only problem was it was July and we were headed back to Dallas!!! That's when we had no kids!!! Almost 10 years ago !!!! Man time flys. Have fun and be safe bro. Take lots of pics!!! Wife and I still look through our pics. I've got a good one driving across Hover Dam.

Re: Today is the day! Get a new Stang!

Be sure to take pics of all the kids in the car before you drive too far.  Who knows who might own that car some day and might appreciate being able to show pics of the first day they got it.

Be sure to post some pics for us, too!

Re: Today is the day! Get a new Stang!

We left Fort Collins around 5:30 pm and arrived back in Utah at 12:24 am.

The Mustang ran like a champ, as we had it serviced before we left Colorado at a trusted mechanic's garage, that the seller of the car knew and had serviced the vehicle previously.

Had cooling system serviced/flushed, new thermostat and new starter installed, LOF, and new fuel filter.   Ran a little warm but not Hot.  Kept it under 80mph and temps stayed in check.

Seven hours of driving and she made it home!  Still can't believe it.  Very excited to have new pony in the stall after no Mustang for four years!  I had owned a GT-CS for 18 years and 20 months, before selling for raise money for home purchase.

This car is gonna be a treat.  Runs well, steers fine, could use better brakes, but I need to just fix the little stuff so wife does not freak over major plans I have.  Anyways, I'm back in the hobby!

Re: Today is the day! Get a new Stang!

Thanks, wsinsle and MS!

It is straight!  Has two pressure dents, one on drivers door that might be able to be smoothed out and one on rear quarter near top that cracked the clear coat n paint a tiny bit.  For $8,140 (including last minute tune up) I can totally live with it!

Passenger side is laser straight.  It received new rear quarter skins and paint in 2005.   The color is from a 1999 Volkswagen.  I have paint code.

The seller thought it was a 289 but told me the engine was from a 1971 so I explained years of 289-302 production and that yes, the C code meant it was originally a 289, but that it is likely a 302.
I have not looked for code on engine but it may likely reveal a 1 D __ from 1971.   The C4 is solid and the engine is strong.

More pics of the kids in it coming soon!

Looks great! Sounds like you got a good deal, enjoy the project. Who was it that said "If you can afford a new car, you can afford a classic"?

Re: Today is the day! Get a new Stang!

the kids loved the new Mustang.  My wife snapped this picture somewhere near Rawlins, Wyoming as the green machine streaked across Southern Wyoming on I-80.

We have other pictures, but there are too many.  The smiles in the picture above, says it all

Re: Today is the day! Get a new Stang!

Picture with the kids on the road could almost be straight out of an old Ford ad. Classic. The green looks really nice in that light. How old are the kids? Are they wrenchers yet?

Re: Today is the day! Get a new Stang!

yeah yeah....  I think you're right, MS, daughter has eyes on the car already.

she is only 12, soon 13, and she has brokered getting to drive it for special occasions already.

is that Cara and her Stang back in the day?  I remember it, did it get finished in orange or red?
