Front swaybar

Is it common when putting a bigger swaybar on the front of a 65 coupe with a 289 and 1 inch lowered springs to have to trim the front rails for clearance?  The rails look like they were trimed for the stock swaybar, the new bar is a 1inch bar and it's going to need more clearance is this normal?

Re: Front swaybar

No front rails do not normally need to be trimmed for swa-bar to fit.
Do you have the "End links"??
Take a look, if possible, at another Stang w/swa-bar attached. Will prolly answer a lot of questions fer you.
Picture being worth 1000 words & all.

Re: Front swaybar

Do you have it on upside down?
I have a 1" bar on my 66 and it fits fine. One of the best bang for the buck upgrades there are.

Good, fast or cheap. Pick any two...

Re: Front swaybar

The swaybar appears to be just a little bit to narrow not sure of the brand it was bought so long ago if both links angle towards the oil pan I will do something different, after checking, it is a 1 1/8th bar

Re: Front swaybar

I put 1 1/8" ADDCO on my front end and I ended up have to go longer bolts and taller spacers to make the clearance. I asked Fatman Fab and Addco if this was a problem and both said no. Make sure you buy bolts that are rated for this. For the longer spacer I went to hardware store and bought some steel 4" inch nipple out of the plumbing section, then cut it down to size.

Re: Front swaybar

I'm running an 1 1/4" hollow front bar on a pretty lowered '66. I did take an angle grinder to the existing notch in the frame rail to open it up a bit for a tad more clearance. I also shortened the end link spacers (by about 50%) and installed shorter bolts - no way it would fit with taller spacers. No clearance or binding issues through full range of travel, you'll have to take the springs out though to make sure nothing touches at full bump stop but you shouldn't have any problems. Be sure to use good grade 8 bolts and locking nuts.
