How to mount gas pedal in 68 for cable ????

Car 68 convertible installing 98 Cobra 4.6
Anyone with pictures showing gas pedal installed next to clutch and brake?
Did you have to add a base to increase travel of cable?  how much and what was it made of?

First question I have is what type of transmission are you running?

Re: How to mount gas pedal in 68 for cable ????

Steve the best that I can remember, I put the pedal where I wanted to mount it and then pressed it up and down while my brother watched it at the back of the motor to see if it was opening all the way.  I do remember that I had to raise it some, seems like I just bent a L piece of sheet metal and either drilled and bolted or tack welded it to the bottom of the GP bracket then mounted it to the floor.  Sorry no pics I'm in Florida for the winter.

Re: How to mount gas pedal in 68 for cable ????

Not sure about the 4.6, but in my '65 with EFI conversion, I am using a 1969 pedal assembly. I see they are now available repop for about $80, complete.

As for location, I reused one of the original '65 mounting holes and drilled a second hole for the mount and then lined it up and drilled the upper hole for the cable to fit through.

Thank you JEFF;
that is exactly the view and information is was needing. This results in enough pedal travel?? No spacers underneath?

Or use a Lokar pedal and cable. It also takes care of the hole in the firewall.
