I have a 67 289 4spd car, I have a compete power steering set up from a 68 289 auto car to put in the 67 car.
Steve I believe you told me don't use the one piece (long shaft) manual steering box with the power set up as
19 to 1 will really feel weird . I have the short shaft box , and collapsible column , rag joint, etc ,I plan on buying
an aftermarket wood steering wheel and using my 67 plug for the turn signal harness. I put in a 68 brake
pedal when I went to power brakes. I know I might need some nut inserts and small hardware, but is the
68 box and column pretty much a bolt in? I am worried about the factory clutch linkage ,do you think any thing
will interfere with that? THANK YOU mustang stu

You have already covered the brake pedal and the wiring harness. As mentioned the firewall clamp is different. The clamps that attach the 68 column to the dash are also quite different from 67. If you have all the 68 style clamps to match up with the 68 column, it should be a direct bolt in. I have done it several times.

Thanks guys for your replies, I bought a 68 parts car years ago, thankfully I took every part that I could for
the power steering swap. I have the firewall clamp and steering column clamps. I'm thinking I will get a
control valve, pump, slave cylinder, 4 hoses and idler arm. These parts are 49 years old will probably leak
and cause me problems if not replaced. When I put the power brakes on last year I ran into more issues than I
thought I would. So I thought I would check first this time. I'm getting ready for a springtime steering
conversion. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AND KNOWLEDGE ! mustang stu

Concerning manual steer......I read a small report on OpenTrackers roller bearing conversion on the pitman arm.
EVERY person that posted sed it greatly improved the steering effort even when parked with NO problems of steering wheel coming back to center! Just use the alignment numbers posted on Daze's(or MS I believe)website concerning alignment. Max caster is the secret to steering wheel centering. When you add in the roller spring perches...and roller idler arm .......steering should be a breeze even with wide front tires. FYI

When you go to get this stuff, check out
He really knows mustang power steering. He rebuilt ALL of my stuff when I put it back on last year. No issues at all. Car steers like a dream, after having manual steering for several years. Glad I went back.
