Horn Issues

Why does my horn not work?  I didn't realize until I watched a CJ youtube clip that you can hit the corners of the horn on a 65 coupe.  Mine works if I only hit the middle but I have to really push hard.  I just thought that was how it was back in the day....thoughts?

Re: Horn Issues

Probably a broken piece in the center of the steering wheel.  Twist the horn piece counterclockwise to remove it.  Compare the parts inside to some on CJPony catalog page to see if the plastic piece is broken or if something is missing.

Re: Horn Issues

MS I seem to remember a post from you saying to adjust the steering column. Could this be an issue here. Maybe needs moved closer?

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Re: Horn Issues

I was considering buying a new horn ring since the chrome is not in good shape on mine.  Would that fix it or does it not come with any parts, just the horn ring itself?

Re: Horn Issues

The horn ring is probably not the issue.  I also discounted the possibility of the steering column position because he said the horn does work if you push it hard.  That tells me the contacts work under the steering wheel.  It is probably a broken retainer or contact under the horn ring.

Re: Horn Issues

Not to steal the thread, along the same lines
If the steering shaft is too close the horn will honk itself as you turn the steering wheel, usually at the most awkward moment!! I adjusted the shaft down a bit and it only honks when I want.

Re: Horn Issues

Funny, my horn hasn't worked since I fitted my 15" Wood steering whewheel my dash and headlights flicker when I press the horn but NO Horn working

im sure its something to do with the horn  button contact on the wheel.

Re: Horn Issues

Gastbackbhoy,
Is it a Grant Wood wheel?  If so, they are infamous for terrible horn contacts.  Mustang Steve has a method of fitting the 65/66 horn components on the Grant wheels to make them actually work.

Re: Horn Issues

Mine is the fake GT350 wood one that Kentucky mustang sell same as what's on the Cobra Kit cars,It's not an aftermarket copy of anything that was ever on the mustang like the wood Gt wheel

i know its in my horn button connection app cause when I remove and reinstall the spring clips on horn button Spark and the horn tries to work, both horns are ok and work when power is put to them.
