I keep changing my mind on keeping the power steering or converting to manual. I went to remove the drop bracket and accidentally turned the stud on the RAM while trying to remove the nut. I'm not sure how much, but if say a full turn or so before I realized it was backing out with the nut. Is there some guide as to where this stud should set? I can't find it on here or elsewhere... thanks

One response asking my age, another slightly condescending response posting a link that doesn't work. Why? I don't know what I'm doing guys. These types of responses just add to the frustration of being clueless.
Can someone please answer the question?

If you're talking about the stud that goes through the drop bracket that is sandwiched between the rubber bushings - there is no adjustment. It is just the end of the hydraulic ram, turning it should have no effect.

Thanks Kevin197.
A guy with 16 total posts in 4 years answered my question, didn't haze me for not knowing anything, or talk down to me. I love this place, but some of you guys tend to be clique-ish.

Sorry Sig. If I knew anything about power steering I woulda answered, but my mustang is manual steering.

Didn't mean no harm..........was just gonna make a smart-a$$ comment about I'm an old fa-- and like the manual steer. It's really pretty easy to steer/park because its such a light weight car. It doesn't drip power steering fluid either!
I sometimes forget not EVERYBODY is familiar with my sense of humor...and for that I apologize.
You really can install roller pitman arm..and other stuff to make it just like power steering!!

Hey 6s6,
Do you have the roller idler arm on yours? How do you like it?

I don't butt...........I've "heard" it really frees it up. Roller idler arms are suppose to be a big help too.
The Shelby drop seems to make it turn pretty good AND...since I filled the box up with grease...it steers like a "new" 50 year old car.
Butt-hay......with these "massive gunz" any car's gonna steer effortlessly.

FWIW, I just tried the link that Ron posted and it worked fine. Also, that is a very good place to get any of your early Ford PS questions answered or systems rebuilt.

The link works for me now too, but it didn't before today. I even Googled "stangers site" and couldn't get to it from there either. Not sure why it didn't work last week, but I have access now.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
