Hi,
I bought a new aluminum water pump...anyway it has a back plate with a gasket...do I need to apply the water pump gasket maker between the plate, gasket and water pump??
Thanks!

Yes, you want a good seal between the pump and plate, I use a small amount of gasket adheasive on the pump and plate.

Typically you will add sealer to that gasket between the plate and pump on ALL the gasket surface, both sides of the gasket.
The gasket that goes between the plate and timing cover only needs sealer aound the two water ports, on both sides of the gasket. No need to seal up the rest of that cavity because nothing goes in there. (But it is a darn good place to leave my business card and a cam spec card) When you do the next tear down, you know what cam is in there and the guy that caused all the POS....
