Im trying to find a replacement for this cable the outer sheath is bunching up causing the cable to be trapped and is shortening the outer also causing adjustment issues. The overall length is 56 inches

The problem you are having is one I had several times till I changed to a Hay's clutch cable with metal ends and got rid of those useless plastic ends. I know most people do not have issues, but I lost several cables just like you did. The Hays cable has been in for a couple of years now with nice smoothe reliability! I got it at Summit. you might have to change the nuts and washers at the clutch fork depending on what diameter yours are. The cable spacer from Forte's parts connection can also prevent the plastic end failure if you have room for it.

Looks like failure from excessive clutch lever force requirements. It is not a stock Mustang cable with the eye type end on it.
Is it from a retrofit kit?

It came with the car, my 66 coupe came with a 302 and T5 from an 80's car, might not even have been a mustang, the guy I bought it from in Phoenix didn't do the conversion and didn't know much about the car. I didn't see the previous post about using metal ended hays clutch cable but I have ordered a cable from rockauto from a 79 mercury it is the same length as mine and uses the eye, so I'm hoping it will work, if not I'm going to convert the pedal to a quadrant type and fit a heavy duty mustang cable, my only concern is the length of cable as mine is only 56" from eye to end of thread, what I really wanna do is work out if I can use a ford sierra cosworth cable and so I can get them easier and don't have to pay import tax and expensive shipping charges which double the price of the cable. I have been trying to find a clutch cable comparison website to find length of the sheath and the inner and also what ends are fitted, so find the perfect fit..
Cheers

Just install the MS cable kit and your problems will go away. That cable you ordered probably does not have the adjustment at the bottom that you will need.
The MS cable is 72" long including 3" adjusting threads. Housing is 60". The quadrant eliminates any small parts that tend to wear and cause problems.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
