Heater box before carpet?

Okay, I am more than little sleep deprived. However I mustered on and installed my heater box on my '65 fastback. Afterwards I looked and the box and wondered, how am I going to install carpet?  Do I have to remove the box again? Wah!

Re: Heater box before carpet?

I hope not, I just did the same thing. Mine appears to have just enough room to squeeze carpet through.

Re: Heater box before carpet?

As long as you remembered to install he firewall insulation first, the carpet can go in after the box.  Did you attach the heater hoses to the box before you installed it?

Re: Heater box before carpet?

Good morning everyone!
On the firewall I installed sheet insulation, then the firewall blanket and yes I did add the hoses to the heater box before installation. On a side note I took some grommets from a 69 Mustang and put them in the hole first. That really helps seal the area between the firewall and the hoses.
thanks

Re: Heater box before carpet?

Rest easy, your carpet install should be fine, mine was with the same sequence. I have heard that different people have had carpet fitment isusues which inplies there is variance in tolerances either with the carpet or the cars themselves. Mine was just about perfect with sound insulation, heat shield and all that stuff under neath the carpet.

Re: Heater box before carpet?

I have a question in regards to heater box installation.  When I installed the firewall insulation in my 65 Fastback it fit terrible.  In the area of the recess for the heater box, the holes for the heater hoses didn't line up and the insulation didn't lay in the recess area for the heater box.  I called Mustangs Plus who I purchased it from and they checked the P/N etc. and said that's how they fit.  Is there any difference between Coupe's and Fastback's in the heater area?  Thanks

Re: Heater box before carpet?

I got mine from CJ and noticed they had different levels of 'quality'. I got the molded, more expensive version and it fit almost pefect. Even the punch holes for the push in fasteners lined up! I can't imagine that the firewall for the fastback is different from the coupe.
