Need to replace my wiring harness. The old owner butchered the one I have. Any ideas of a good wiring harness.

How bad is it "butchered"?? Sometimes a repaired one is way simplier than ripout & replace with a new one.
A lot to be said about crimped/soldered/and shrink tubed addition to the stock one.
I guess if its burnt up or "eat up" by "thangs-in-da-night" replace is the only option.

I'm sure that's within Midlifes abilities. Get in touch with him and check.

American AutoWire kits are very well known and what I am installing in my fastback.

I bought a Painless years ago, just recently started installing. I thought it would be easier to allow additional circuits for the car. I have figured out that I will still need an auxiliary fuse block. If I had it to do over, I would go with a factory harness. For me, the cost difference between a factory harness and the Painless will be offset by the extra time it takes to install the Painless and the connectors I had to find to make it work like I wanted.

I installed a painless chassis and efi harness in my 1966 Mustang that has a 1988 5.0 Swap.
I would give it 3 out of 5. I mainly bought it because of their supposed tech support and needing two harness I didn't want two manufacturers. Plus the wires are marked. Only one guy I talked to wasn't a jerk to me on the phone. The way they talked to me gave me the impression they hated their jobs.
On more than one case their diagram was flat out wrong. I pointed this out and even sent pictures and never got a reply. I was disappointed that there was no complete wiring diagram. Just a bunch of schematic for different sections.
If you're only doing the chassis harness I would tell you go stay away from painless.

I would highly recommend installing a new original style harness. Those I have seen are pretty good. Patching up an old one leaves you with an expensive patched up old one. With oem style you still have original wiring diagrams you can follow. Folks like Painless should be considered for street rods or kit cars.
Caution! There are three different harnesses for the 1965 Mustang. - the generator version, the standard version, and the GT version.
