Wondering if you would run this clutch and pressure plate or not? Came from a running driving car with 70K. He was switching everything with a new Coyote. Also came with a Aluminum block plate. I have a steel one in the attic. Does it matter which one we run. This is for my sons 68 Mustang he's been working on. Picked up everything $400.

Clutch and PP are cheap enough............especially when you think about the hassle of pulling the tranny to change a chatter-y clutch. Swap it NOW and don't look back.

Not liking those hot spots on the p plate. I'd buy a new setup.

Don't like the clutch disc...looks like its at its end...pressure plate and flywheel can easily be sanded out with 100 grit..on a d/a sander.....I like Sals/TKO idea ...buy a new disc and pressure plate.....jj

Thanks Guys! Looks like were buying new! Is there any difference between the Aluminum and Steel Block plate? The Steel seems a little thicker and stronger.

I had an issue with an aluminum one, Steve. Don't know exactly what caused it but the original plate (came with the donor engine) somehow warped a bit when I mated the engine/trans. This allowed the torque converter bolts to just barely touch it...which caused heat and made it warp even more. I never heard anything but when I pulled things apart for the major body resto in 2012 I saw what had been going on. Bought a steel one, no more issue.

Block plates are specific to the fly wheel. SBF had two different flywheels - 157tooth & 164tooth (I think) Get a mismatch and the starter will not align with the F/W. And, get a steel one.
And, I agree about the clutch and pressure plate. Get new ones.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
