Hey guys, i'm finally being active about getting my mustang fixed up again but first things first is to solve the transmission issues i'm having. As you can see in the picture, my transmission is sitting way to far forward in the tunnel. My mother Debbie says she has heard of having to cut a tunnel to accommodate a tranny before, but not to this extent. It is a T5 on a 302 in a 65. Thanks!

Sorry I don't think my pictures want to work very well.

What bellhousing are you using? If stock, you need the adapter plate. If T5, then the adapter is not
used. What year T5?
Offline
It is a T5 bell housing from 1990 Im pretty sure. Ill have to bug Larry for a minute to jog his memory on the year but its a T5.
Offline
it is a 92 actually

What crossmember are you using? Is the engine sitting on stock mounts in the factory position? And, what is the transmission out of?
Offline
Its not on a cross member at the moment I am just holding it in place with a jack stand. As for the mounts they are not stock. what I know is that there was a crown vic 302 in there before, but I pulled it and put in a 92 GT's 302. it is also probably worth mentioning that when the crown vic was in there, it had an automatic, but I put the T5 in instead. The T5 DID come from the same car as the 302. Hmmm was thinking, maybe my motor mounts are on backwards or perhaps the wrong side as they do have different spacing on each side and look as though they could be but on wrong.

I should also mention that the car was originally an automatic from the factory, and the automatic from the crown vic did fit in correctly.

Sounds like your motor is too far forward. Take some measurements from fixed chassis points and post them
up. We'll compare them to others.
Offline
okay so I took this measure meant from the front of the firewall to the middle of the motor mount. it was give or take 16 1/2 inches and 17 to the end of the mount. this is the mount that is attached to the motor compartment.
Offline
Definitely too far forward. I am betting someone made cutom mounts for the engine in order get the tranny to fit.
I would suggest stock 66-70 v8 frame mounts and rubber motor mounts. Not 65, which are different. Then use a custom t5 crossmember from MustangSteve and a 1966 c-4 rubber tranny mount. If you use those parts, the shifter will come out in the right place. You may have to shorten the driveshaft, but no telling what has already been modified.

Thanks for the info, ima get right on that.

I used the adjustable mounts. You can put it right where you want it.

Hi, recently i swap t5 in my 66 with stock motor mounts , and fit right without cut or grind . I used spacer on bell.
