going to look at a 67 fastback in the morning. I know to look at the floor boards for rust, what other places might there be an issue with? the guy says he'll take 10K but really doesn't care if he sells it or not. what I do know is the car s in the garage and being used as a shelf from what I understand. so if the car is decent is 10K about right or not? I know a code S is the 390 what is the code for the 289 and or 302, if there is one. any other information would be helpful.

Rust places to check: Cowl area
Lower bottom corners of front fenders
Around the tops of rear wheel wells
Lower rear corners of rear wheel wells
Drop down areas in the trunk (coupes especially)
Top board/floor board areas
Any/all structural spots
Torque box areas
Under the chrome trim around rear window
Bottoms of both doors (especially lower rear corners)
Sail area on sides by rear glass
Just to name a couple.
IF you can find out where it sent most of its life....that would be a big help(think...as farrrrrrr away from the coast as possible.) Texas (west Texas)...NM.....Ariz....Cali. should be a + MS always sez its better to find a rust-free car and BRING IT HOME compared to finding a local car and fighting the rust. I tend to agree!!!

Happy hunting.

Looks like 6Sally6 hit all the key spots.
Do a Google search for the engine codes.

The 289/302 engine codes are K for the 271HP solid lifter HiPo engine, A for the 4 barrel, and C for the 2 barrel.
Rust can lurk anywhere in a car this old, so check everything. Magnets for the painted areas and screwdrivers for the undercarriage. Take no chances.
Also make sure the car is complete. You can track down most any part now for a '67 fastback, but repro parts can be spotty in terms of quality and the more you have to buy the more the car ultimately costs to get back on the road.

10k is a great price for a buildable fastback.

Yeah, where did you say it was again? I mean exactly?

deal was made cash, title, and car in two weeks. appears to have been a calif car. no rust anywhere. 289, 2 barrel, c4. it has been hit on the drivers side back corner, but not bad at all, and the area between the door jamb and the fake vents at the front of the rear fenders. a lot of new parts come with it, gas tank, the aluminum piece that goes between the tail lights, new hood, interior has been redone.
he may have to sell if his wife throws a fit.
