Looking to add 3 point seat belts to the 67 coupe. I see some that mount the pivot just below the rear 1/4 window and others that have them above the windows. I think I would prefer the above location, but I don't want the belt rubbing my ear!!
What does a factory 68 look like? Did they use some sort of drop down bracket to lower the pivot point?
What have y'all done??

Hey John, I am happy with the 3 point Wesco Performance belts I installed. While they have several style buckles from which to choose, and one that matched the Mustang pretty well, I went with the retro old school airplane chrome buckle, just cause I'm I'm a tough guy.

Good on you for installing the 3 point seat belts. I did this years ago and have never looked back. Safety is a serious thing...
I personally dislike the look of the seat belts being supported up high. To me, they look horrible and just hang there. I went with the lower mounting option, just below the rear quarter glass. See pictures -
When I did it, I remember people saying that the belt would be annoying and cut into my neck. Not so at all. The belt feels so comfortable and sits nicely over the shoulder.
The anchor point below the rear quarter glass, I welded a high tensile nut to a flat bit of plate, drilled a hole into the body of the car (below the rear quarter glass) large enough for the nut to site inside the hole and then welded the plate to the car. For the retractable part of the seat belt, I bought some steel angle, cut it to suit the length of the retractable part of the seat belt. I then drilled two holes in the steel angle. One hole for the retractable to fix to and the other hole was to bolt it to the floor. I also cut another flat bit of plate and put it on the underside of the floor and then put the bolt through and secured it in place. So there is the angle steel on top, the bolt going through and then a flat plate underneath.
It works well for me!

Thanks for the input guys, I found my old front seat belts in the garage this afternoon. They have a black flip top latch like the one "Tough Guy" posted. I like that chrome latch, I reminds me of my old 69 F250 I used to have.
I like the look of the pivot down low, I'm just not real wild about drilling more holes in the car...........doesn't really make since, does it??
I found Andover Auto Restraints that has a 8 inch door post extension, DPE....their are a lot of the pics on their site that can be enlarged that don't work though. And I would need to verify pricing.
Wesco has something that I like too with what they call an extended sash, same concept as the DPE. Could be more price friendly. Makes me rethink the flip up latch if I can only get a 11" sleeve up from the mounting point. Could be hard to buckle.

I'm not big on drilling holes in the car either, but these two holes for the pivots are only a recess for the nut to sit in. The plate is welded over the top, so the pivot point becomes a part of the car.
I have no regrets on mine and much prefer it over seeing a seatbelt dangling front the roof.

It doesn't work directly for me but just copy the URL it provides and then click the "SOURCE" button and past the URL where you want the picture. Then click the "SOURCE" button again to return to normal view and the picture should be there.

Pictures have been sent. I hope they help. One thing to clarify... I didn't want to drill and weld into the side of the sill, so that is where I used the angle steel for the retractable portion of the seatbelt.

Here are your pics. You stated in your email to me: "The pivot mounting point is the one just below the rear quarter glass. Not really a big deal to drill the hole in my opinion. Where the retractable sits, I went with a piece of angle steel and drilled through the floor and plate on the underside."

Just to clarify, I only drilled one hole in the pillar (just below the rear quarter glass) and welded the nut/plate on. The second hole for the retractable was through the floor with the angle steel and plate. The pictures show the holes in the top and bottom, but at the last minute I went with the angle steel and hole in the floor option. I am very happy with my seatbelt arrangement. I am big on safety and it does feel comfortable having the seatbelt go up over my shoulder. I recommend doing it this way.

Nope. With my setup, it takes two to tango. I don't know if they offer the rigid short end piece which would allow a one handed buckle up.

I installed the Wesco 3-point seat belts in mt 65 FB. Note this install places the upper anchor point in the inner structure of the roof near the window opening, just behind the front seat. Good quality components. Pretty happy with the results but have some observations:
1. The anchor plate for the upper mount is supposed to install with 1/8" rivets but the holes in the plate are 3/16" so the larger rivets are required. Also, the plate butts against the headliner bow, which is fine, but leaves part of the plate hanging out of the opening and requires drilling another hole for the rear-most rivet.
2. Although a shoulder bolt was supplied to install the upper anchor bolt, a regular non-shoulder bolt was supplied to install the lap belt anchors to the trans tunnel. I substituted the old seat belt shoulder bolts and had to enlarge the holes in the anchors to accept them because I wanted metal-to-metal contact. Using the regular non-shoulder bolt would have resulted in compressing the carpet and padding - a recipe for that bolt loosening up in the future.
3. The lap belt buckle uses a friction roller to adjust its position and so doesn't slide on the seat belt as in modern cars. This means that it has to be individually adjusted for each driver. It also means that unless you slide it back, it prevents the belt from retracting all the way, leaving some of the belt bunched up on the rear floor. Not a problem except that it's visually annoying.

It's easy to slide the buckle and unless you're concerned about it gathering up a bit on the floor in the back, it's not a big deal. I just don't understand why they went with that design, since the mechanism that locks the belt and keeps you from moving forward in a sudden stop/accident is entirely housed in the reel that bolts to the rear floor.
I should also add that I ordered them with some options so they'd fit better in a 65 FB:
1. These are the 140" design that allows mounting the upper anchor in the roof structure.
2. I specified that they build them with the long "C" mounting piece so I could bolt the anchor and the retractable portion to the same location. You can see the the regular "C" end in their instructions: The long "C" end is bent in a kind of lazy S shape so when bolted behind the reel, it sticks out to the side a bit and keeps the belt from getting tangled up. Here's a picture of the long "C" end I pulled from another installation guide on another forum:
If you go with the regular "C" end, then you have to bolt it to the stock location in the rocker panel. That makes an inverted "V" and to my eye doesn't look good and impedes getting into the rear seat area.
3. I ordered them with long sash guides which keeps the belt down closer to the shoulder.
4. I also chose the 11" bucket or bench seat sleeve ends, which bolt to the tunnel. This length (as opposed to the 8" length) seems right for typical bucket seats installed in our cars.

I like the idea of the long “C” attaching bracket. I didn’t see it on their site when I was looking. I will go with the 8” sash and 11 inch sleeve ends.
When I called yesterday I asked about buckles like the late model ( comfort latch as I was told) that slide. Was told those are more expensive. What they use now keeps the price competitive.
I can’t say I’ve found any other belts that provide a long dash. Some of the Scott Drakes have the have that long attaching bracket for bolting in like yours and the slider buckle. Still looking.
I did order brackets for the upper mount from Wesco so I can get the headliner and front & back glass installed.
