Will a manual brake pedal fit in the same pedal assembly as a power brake pedal? I believe the car was a manual brake car from the factory. PO installed a power booster and welded a 1" piece between the pedal pivot and where the ram bolts on. Thanks!
Online!
The support is drilled for both manual and power brakes. The pedals do not mount the same way. The power brake pedal mounts with a bolt high up on the support near the cowl. The manual pedal mounts through bushings in the support lower down.
The previous owner was an idiot. Get a power brake pedal and get it installed. You cannot do what he did because the pedal ratios between manual and power brakes are radically different and without the right peal you are not putting the right amount of force into the brakes. This is dangerous. If I were you, that @$$hat would get a real piece of my mind. Brakes are not an area to get creative and try to "farmer" your way through. All the information you need to do the conversion properly is on the web. I would now go over the entire car and make sure its safe, because such things indicate a clear lack of knowledge (and worse, an ignorance to investigating what the proper way to do things is) and would make me very nervous.

A "correct" power brake pedal will only work with the "correct" booster for the car. No telling what is cobbled together in there. See my FAQ page on pedals and boosters to ID the correct stuff for your car.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
