Hello :-)
I have a Mach 1 from 73 with the standard Discbrakes from the factory. I have 17 inch Wheels.
Which options do I have for conversion to bigger brakes ? better brakes ? I would like to leave the rear drum brakes as they are. If the conversion plates fits my spindles , are the Cobra brakes better the for instance the stoptech kit etc. Its a daily driver with a 351c around 450 HP
I live in Sweden so its not around the corner :-)
Best Regards Rob

Mustang Steve has a kit to use late model Mustang brakes or if you’re looking for aftermarket with 4 or more piston caliper brakes check out Street or Track

You need at least 17” wheels to clear the Cobra front brakes, but not all 17” wheels will clear. What wheels do you have?

Hi
Im having America Revv 17
Where is the kit I cant find street or track ?

If you have concern about the wheels and calipers fitting, you could go with 12" rotors. I believe MS has such a kit and I know that Wilwood has them - I have them on my '66.

I found the street an track kit, requiers some modification to the spindles. Have not found MS kit for DISC spindles yet.
Is the wilwood good ?

Check out the Mustang Steve web site. I have the '08 GT discs on the front of my 66 using Steves brackets. Combined with the power booster kit my brakes are awesome.

I think the MS brackets are all for drum spindles too.

My suggestion is to remove your front spindles and disc brakes in entirety. That way you can sell them to somebody with drum brakes and wants an originsl disc setup. You will get nearly enough money to pay for the whole conversion.
Of course, that leaves you needing a set of drum spindles and hubs for a 70-73 Mustang or Cougar. The good part is the guy that buys your disc brakes has a set he no longer needs and will likely sell them cheap.
That is the best scenario.
Then you have the choice of the13” cobras, the 12.5” GT, or the 13.2” GT front brakes. The advantage of these brakes over other aftermarket stuff is you will have all Ford original parts, which guarantees easy future parts availability.
These work great with the rear drums and master cylinder/booster that you have. While the factory proportioning valve will still function, you might consider installing an adjustable rear valve.

Okay thanks.
The problem is that hard to find the spindles in Sweden, everyone seems to already have converted to discs. So I have to hunt them down som other way. Will there never be a kit for disc spindles ?

I have disk brake spindles on my '66. I purchased a set of 12.19" Wilwoods that bolted right up. But they are not Ford.

I hunted down drumspindles and hubs for a 72 mustang, and Cobra brakes from a 2004 :-)

Theres another member here from Sweden, Hakan.
He may have some contacts there to help you find what you need.
I'm not sure what inspections you need to deal with in Sweden, Here in OZ, a lot of inspectors are of the opinion that Wilwoods shouldn't be used, .... something about no seal somewhere.
I prefer to use ford parts where I can.

A kit might be in the works for 68-73 discs/Granada spindles. Demand is low, so not a big priority.
