is there one for an automatic and how do you change the bulb
Offline
Yes, there is. Remove the four screws holding down the bezel and slide it up the shifter and you will see the bulb in a holder on the side of the shifter.

so to be clear I have removed the console and the bracket that is on the lower part shifter, slides up and the bulb can be removed then.

Yes, the bulb has a metal cover over the top of it I think, but that should come right off, then the bulb can be replaced. The cover is to narrow the light so it only illuminates the letter/number for the gear you're in, and keep light from being projected all inside the console, which would come out wired places and look odd.

thank you for the answer. there was not any wiring coming from the dash to the console which leads me to believe the console may have been added on later. where would I find a diagram to see where the wire would hook up into the original dash wiring harness? does such a thing exists within this site?

Cars without consoles also had the light. The light wiring plugs into a single wire socket type connector near the fuse block. I believe the wire is blue with a red stripe. Then the wiring just grounds to the top of the transmission tunnel. What year is the car? The light and wiring is reproduced for '65-'66 cars. I don't see it for '67-onwards, but I'm sure if you search for it someone has a good used one. I have one that came from a car without a console, not 100% sure if they are the same, but I think so, as the only wiring specific to the consoles seems to be for the courtesy light in the rear of the console.

the car is a 67 fastback, this car had to have been garage kept zero rust anywhere I have been amazed

That's amazing. My '67 is a fastback too. Most of the rust had been dealt with before I bought it fortunately. I ended up fixing a few areas. Nothing crazy though.
