Curiosity got the best of me so I got up under the Mustang this afternoon and took a look at the engine casting number and found C8AM-6015-B. And here I thought I had a plane Jane 289. The VIN says it had a 289 off the factory floor. I guess someone did a bit of upgrade at some point!

I read somewhere a long time ago, that Ford used Mexican blocks as factory replacement engines for warranty repairs and such at dealerships. Probably used what was available and cheap at the time.
Good block, though. Basically Hipo spec. With the thick main caps and higher nickel content and such.

I bought a 289 Hi-Po shortblock back in the early 1970's and stamped somewhere (lifter valley maybe) that it was Mexican made.

I’m afraid not Al. I am working on the car again though. I started back on the fuel lines earlier this week. Got a fuel pump heading my way in the mail. And I got some wheels for it too a few weeks ago. Slowly but surely.

The Mexican blocks are not high nickel content. Just plain old 3rd world cast iron. That’s why they have heavier caps. That’s what I was told by someone I know who’s an engineer and worked on J Bittle’s race team. They sent out a sample for metallurgical testing.
