Finally, a decent GAS CAN that does not leak!

Once the Californians dictated we must all use compliant gas cans that meet their clean air specs, there have been many failed attempts to design a gas can that did not leak profusely when gassing up your mower or whatever.  They all leaked a lot worse than a can with an open spout.

BUT MY FRIENDS, I AM HERE TODAY TO TELL YOU I FINALLY FOUND ONE THAT WORKS PERFECTLY.  YAY, VERILY, THIS NEW DESIGN DOES NOT LEAK A DROP!

I found this five gallon can at Wally World and it works without spilling a drop!   And was not overly expensive.  I did remove the built-in strainer that is there to apparently keep you from introducing trash into the container because it caused the gas pump to spill gas on the ground.  Once that thing was removed, it was clear sailing.

Now, when I fill up my Mustang with a plastic can, there is no gas spilled on the paint and no gas wasted.

It's called the EASY CAN.  Would have posted some pics, but the tinypics was not functioning at the time of my post.

Re: Finally, a decent GAS CAN that does not leak!

Good info. I think I like the 2 1/2 gallon version as a space saver rather than 5 gallon.

Re: Finally, a decent GAS CAN that does not leak!

Great cans a local Polaris dealer stocked those here in Oregon about four or five years ago. I have both the 2 1/2 and 5 gallon red  and yellow diesel sizes. Use to spill diesel all over the hood of my tractor before buying the cans (the opening for the tank is in the middle of the hood). These cans are great because they have a shut off feature that stops the flow when the tank is full. No more over flowing the chain saw, log splitter or lawn mower.

Re: Finally, a decent GAS CAN that does not leak!

I recently picked up a 5 gal and a 2.5 gal from HF.  My old plastic PIA can had split and I needed a replacement for lawn gas, etc.   These were fairly reasonably priced and I have to say they are the best plastic cans I've found...very similar to the Briggs & Straton cans sold by Walmart and do not leak or dribble and are easy to handle.  And, they are even made in the USA by Midwest Can Co.
I just hauled the full 2.5 nearly 9000 miles and never got even a whiff of gas in the back of the truck.

Just sayin'

Really love my old "stand-by" gas can. Its a 2.5 gal Round-Up jug
Lid screws off/on. Can use a funnel....or NOT!    "Let it slosh" is my motto.

Anyway....when my Round-up jug wears out I'm liable to use an old antifreeze container. (The SAME anti freeze that kills stray cats/dogs if they drink it)
Sorry......that's just how I roll!

For those of you thinking about using “alternative” containers for gasoline (and thumbing your nose at the Feds), turn them upside down and read the recycle number. Use #2 - high density polyethylene. Gasoline will (slowly) dissolve #4 - low density polyethylene.

Re: Finally, a decent GAS CAN that does not leak!

It has a vertical handle on the back as well as a handle on the base. You can tilt the can 90 degrees and insert the filler neck and not a drop comes out until you push and hold the green button. The black part is ergonomically designed so you hook your fingers there to give your thumb better push angle.  In my 56 F100, it has a fill hole made into the bed. Without the pushbutton operated valve, I woukd always spill gas on the bed’s wooden floor. With this one, I can lay the tank on the bed with the spigot in the fill hole and then just hold the button.

Re: Finally, a decent GAS CAN that does not leak!

I actually have 6 of those gas cans- 4 gas and 2 diesel cans. They really are good cans and also the first ones I’ve found that don’t leak. My ONLY complaint about them is that they could pour a little faster.  They get heavy after a while if your trying to pour out 5 gallons.
