Re: Drop base air cleaner..........

What's your intake manifold & engine?

My Performer worked ok with a dropped base air cleaner & Edelbrock carb.  I had less than a half inch clearance, but a Performer RPM would not fit - too tall for my car.  Obviously an Air Gap would be too tall too.  I have a 351W.  The 289/302/5.0 block will give more room, so those other manifolds might fit.  You could also try a shorter air cleaner.

Sally, I cut a hole in my hood before I found out about the drop base air cleaner. ;-)

Re: Drop base air cleaner..........

My '67 has room to spare above the Performer RPM, Edlebrock 1403, and repro Hi-Po air cleaner, even with a 1" carb spacer.  I test fit it by installing just the carb with no air cleaner stud, then making a box out of cardboard the size of the air cleaner and shutting the hood.  If it didn't smash the box I was good.  I then went bigger and bigger until it did so I knew about how much clearance I had.

Re: Drop base air cleaner..........

Put a set of adjustable motor mounts on it and drop the engine and inch.

Re: Drop base air cleaner..........

I have a 14” Black Edelbrock base that is about 5/8” drop if you want to try it.  Won’t work for me so it is occupying garage space.
