I am going to buy a controller form my 1956 F100's 4r70w transmission. All I have heard about is Baumann, with good reviews. They make a 2 series and a 4 series. The 2 series is $800 and sounds like it would do the job. I don't want anything spectacular performance-wise. I just want it to work as it should.
Also saw the MSD version that comes with handheld screen so you can set it up from the cockpit. BUT, with my past experience with the MSD ATOMIC EFI system, I am a bit leery of buying another one of their expensive products. It is $150 cheaper than the Baumann... BUT, the harness is another $160. So, overall price is similar.
What do you think?

One of my co-workers runs a quick 4 in his pickup. Very user friendly, excellent software. Also a few guys run them on 4L80E's over on one of the other forums I frequent with good luck.

I'm running a Baumann Quick4 on the 4R70W that is mated to the 390 in my 1970 F250. Very pleased with how it works. The supporting software makes it easy to customize the shifts to match the engine and drivetrain. The only issue I had initially was the tach signal from my Pertronix unit but they have a filter that installs easily into the harness if needed to clean up the signal. The harness was easy to work with and of high quality. Since I am messing around with different driveline configurations, I ended up using an electronic to mechanical speedometer system. The Baumann has a speedo output signal that works well with different electronic speedos. If you have the right year 4R70W you will likely still be able to use a regular speedometer cable. By going electronic you can also go with the 2003 (ish) or newer units that don't have the speedo drive on the output shaft.
I'm running a quickfuel carb and ended up converting a Holley TPS unit. The choke mounting was actually a little different than a Holley (even though Holley said it was the same) but I was able to make it work. If you are going to inject your truck I think you can just tie into the TPS circuit.
All in all, the truck runs great with the 4R70W. Since a 445 stroker is under construction, I may swap the 4R70W with a 4R100 for a little better torque rating as this will be my post-retirement tow vehicle - I have two junk yard 4R100 specials in the garage waiting for a rebuild.

Does anyone have any input on Baumann’s Quick TWO system? Seems like it has all the features I will need.
Tubo, which one do you have?

Nothing specific on the 2.
My coworker found the multiple program function of the model 4 handy. You can load different programs for different driving, and change between them on the controller itself. Can’t do that on the 2.
Also, the 4 lets you lockup in multiple gears if desired.
Think of this, you can have a nice easy cruising program, then a drag race program, autocross program....

I'm running the US Shift (Baumann) Quick 4 version on my 4R70W. I had the Quick 1 and for $170 I was able to upgrade to the Quick 4. I did have to send them back my Quick 1 box, but it was shipping prepaid. The Quick 4 needed to splice in a wire so the box could read the input from the tach but I've had no issues with either box.

Don't know anyone who's tried it, cheaper though.

I ordered a Baumann Quick2 controller, harness and throttle position sensor for the Edelbrock carb.
$790 shipped. Baumann phoned me to discuss all the details to be sure they supplied what I needed. They agreed the stock converter, with my 3.70 rear gears, would provide excellent first gear acceleration and overall performance.
Will give driving report once I get it installed.

I wish I only had $790 into my AOD to get it running

I paid $250 for the pullout 4r70w tranny from a wrecked 1996 v6 Mustang. I am installing a new front seal, a rear seal and dipstick tube o-ring and crossing my fingers. So, I have about $1,060 invested in a tranny that I “hope” still works! If it does work, I am good to go. If not, a rebuild is $795.

For those of you contemplating an OD trans, the 4r70w is the way to go. By the time I bought the AOD, TC, hardened input shaft, valve body, red Alto frictions, kolen steels, all to make it as strong as the 4r70w, with less tuneabiity, I was in it for $1,700.
I thought I'd get away on the cheap, but once I was into it, well, ya know.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist.

The 4R70W transmissions from 1998-2002 are a better gearbox. In 98 they made some mods to strengthen the internals, etc. I don't remember all that was changed, but I was told when looking for a trans, to look for the 98 and up boxes. Hope yours works okay for you.

i ran a 96 tbird v6 256000 miles on the original transmission, didn't do anything besides change oil and filters. Should hold up. Still going strong when i got tired of driving it.

This is a stock 5.0 with gt40p heads. It won't tax the tranny near as much as the stock v6, most likely. Not a hot rod, just a driver 56 F100. Hopefully it lasts a good long time.

I have been watching and reading about the 4r70w transmission , I would like to switch from 3 speed auto to overdrive , The AODE 4r70w looks to be the way to go. As for controller I will continue reading and watching. Also watched a few videos on tear down and rebuild on the 4r70w , The guy built all the tools needed for tear down. It looks like something that a person could do as far as the rebuild if needed.

57?
Also, I've been told that one should swap the V6 torque converter that came with the V6 trans to a V8 unit. When you talked to Bauman did they mention anything about that for normal driver use?

The guy at Baumann told me the v6 converter used with the 3.70:1 rear gears would work quite well. He did not recommend that I change the converter.
Fat fingers converted my 56 F100 to a 57.
