I noticed yesterday when I drove the car to the gas station, I am getting tire squeal from the driver side. Stock suspension. The only thing changed was all new steering components with a rebuilt steering box. Bought the roller idler arm kit from Open Tracker. Could this be bump steer?? Tires are inflated to proper pressure. Never had this before, but the car sat for 4 years while I was rebuilding the engine and tranny. I have noticed the squeal starts at around 40-50 mph and I do drive on county roads. My plan is havig enough money saved by October and rebuilding the whole suspension in the car. Thanks for any suggestions and comments. Let the can kicking start!!??

Have you checked the toe in? Also, if you are using the same tires, the rubber compound hardens with age and may give you a squeal under scrubbing conditions.

I set it up with 1/8 toe in. Guess I need to head to the alignment shop. I check my outer tie rods and they look Parallel with my lower control arms. I also just noticed there are way more shims on the driver side of my upper control arm than my passenger side. Is that normal?

Do you have some shock tower droop? From what I read the cars are not particularly symmetric from the factory but a big difference in shims could be to shock tower movement or the result of an accident in the past. Or, the alignment simply isn't right.

+1 I'm thinkin'. Probably mostly alignment - has it been aligned since doing the work? 4 yr old tires should probably be replaced, sucks but they do wear out whether you're using them or not. Buddy of mine bought a used Falcon that had been sitting for several yrs in a garage in Virginia and found one of the tires flat on the shelf shortly after he'd replaced the rims & rubber, good thing he did before they'd failed on the road.

MS.... I think you and I have ID the spindles as 66 before. I have KH brakes on the front and the car is a K-Code. Ill post a pic of them in a min. I do have shock tower droop a bit. When I put the Monte Carlo bar on I had some issues. As far as an accident, I noticed some weld work on the front strut bar area. And my inside fender well on the driver side is a replace. You know how it goes with these old cars.

Looks like a '66 spindle to me. Given the manufacturing technologies of the day all of these cars were different when they were NEW - most new cars probably aren't perfect either.
Shim stack variance from one side to the other is totally normal. With adjustable strut rods and an LCA camber kit you could probably get rid of the shims altogether although you might still need just a couple, depending on how anal retentive you are, to get the alignment dialed in to the Nth degree.
