I know you guys really didnt much like my first attempt at a homemade rally pac. I never came up with a decent way to mount it either. While I was busy tonight, I put this together. Instead of the clock, this time its a voltmeter. I turned the gauge on the left, into the gauge on the right.
To mate it to the steering column, I used a 2 1/4 clamping collar. *Disclamer* I must warn you if you think about trying something similar, these collars are NOT completely round inside. I took mine to my friends machine shop and had him turn the inside diameter to 2.240 so it has a slight interference fit on the column. Measure carefully. No machining will crush your steering column. That said.
The reason: With an IDidIT column, a stock rally pac will NOT fit. I want the look of a rally pac. These gauges are also very similar to the gauge bezel. It is still work in progress. Not painted yet.
I think this is much better than my previous attempt. Yes, there is a lip where the gauge pods are welded. When installed on the column, they are behind the larger tube and cannot really be seen. It was a decision I made to put them in front after trial and error, instead of behind or on top.
So, what yall think?

Here is the reason the pods had to go in front, the clearance is a bit tight. The ugly part sits in behind the coning expansion, and covers it. I originally would have liked to done it a different way.
Picture of an IdidIT column in a 1966. space is at a premium.
Here is a link to the type of collar I used.
Since I wound up having to have it turned, I could have bought a bit smaller one so it would be a thinner outside diameter as well.

The lack of a Rally Pac use is the main reason why I kept a stock column. It looks great. Where are the wires going?

What did you use for the pod bodies, Greg. I'd like to see a pic from the side if you can. It looks great so far. I'm impressed.

I havent figured out the wiring yet. I will probably heat shrink them, and run them down the column.
Those pods are part of the tach gauges. It comes in those pods, with the metal mounting bracket included. I know there are some that will say they are cheap autozone gauges, and yes that is true. However, isnt this what hot rodding is all about? All in all, to reproduce that would be pretty darn cheap all in all. less than 100, depending on what you get your gauges for.
I bought all three gauges at autozone. They come in 2 or three colors. I put white overlays on my stock gauges. Heres the best I can come up with without taking more pictures tonight. Its all a self enclosed housing

Looks good Greg. I didn't buy an Ididit column becuse I would not be able to install my homemade rally pac. Mine as shown in my sig pic, has a tach on the left and engine vac on the right.
