I just installed one on my 5.0 for the truck. I got it at OReilly's. 84.5" long, if air pump is removed. Note the belt can be routed two different ways with the air pump removed. I think the best routing is using the 84.5" belt. The other way will use a lot shorter belt. Mine has belt going straight down to the crank pulley from the alternator pulley.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I put in a cheater pulley for the air pump and Im thinking of removing it because it doesn't line up perfectly. Are you using the 5.0 AC pump with your conversion? I want to run Vintage AC on my 69 Mustang but they say I have to use there AC compressor. Im trying to figure out how I can use the 5.0 AC Compressor with the Vintage AC system. Thanks for the pic! Steve69

You can use original compressor, I think. I will be doing the ac conversion soon, so will cross that bridge when I get there.

No reason not to use the Fox AC compressor. They are Denso compressors (6P148A), and quite reliable. Super easy to rebuilt for about $35 worth of parts too. IMO there's no real advantage to running a Sanden compressor and you need adapters to allow it to bolt into the Fox bracketry. The factory systems used R-12, but these swash plate style compressors convert just fine to R-134a, so long as you address the oil issue. They use maybe 3-5HP to run too compared to the old ones that were more like 20-25HP.

The Falcon Project is running the Ford comp that was bolted on to the 97 Explorer 5.0. Only problem was that no one had the needed adapter to make the aftermarket hoses connect to the rear of the compressor at 90 degrees. Needed this to clear the tower. So.....BB made one.
Compressor works great with the Vintage Air Gen IV system.

Not sure if the fittings are the same, but the compressors I believe are different between the Fox Mustangs and the '97 Explorer. I known the SN95 cars used a different compressor starting with their introduction in '94. Possibly there's an off the shelf fitting for the 6P148A, but can't say for sure. If not maybe start buying BB some beers

The Fox compressors had the ports in the body of the compressor, at the top. The Expl. had the ports in the head, at the rear. The original adapter was made with tubing going off in various directions and would not clear the tower. I went looking online and found one 90 degree adapter for that compressor listed at a place in Florida (can't recall the name) and the lady there who was really knowledgeable said that they had been been having them made but the last batch required they buy 50 and it took ten years to sell them....no more being made. I found one for a Sanden comp that was really close and made an adapter to bolt the Sanden adapter to the Expl. comp.
Oh, and I don't do beer....my wine of choice comes from Tenn. in a square bottle...LOL.
