Clutch Fan Question

Working on my son's 95 F150 351 that came with a clutch fan.  It seemed to cool the engine fine.  Its dirty and the fan has some rust on it.  The clutch fan turns hard but seems ok and maybe how it should be.  Should I replace the clutch or just clean it up paint it and reuse it?

Thanks

Re: Clutch Fan Question

Good way to test it is......... With the engine idleing about 750-1000 rpm......engine warmed up.... with your left hand(IF you're right handed) stick your hand into the moving fan and see if it will stop spinning!   IF it does, use the truck to transport yourself to the ER.........IF the does NOT stop spinning, have someone stop the engine first and THEN proceed to the ER!

J/K...............you know that, right?!
I would just clean and paint it.  It ain't broke(still cools,right?!)..don't fix it.

Re: Clutch Fan Question

There should be some resistance when the motor is cold and more at operating temperature. Is the hub leaking a fluid? That would be a warning sign for replacement.

From your description, I would glean it up and run it.

No I didn't see any fluid.  It turns hard but id does turn with a little force.

Yes, and to see if you have a limited slip rear, jack up the back end of the car, put it in gear, now try to grab and stop one of the wheels.  If it stops its not a limited slip.  If it doesn't dial 911 with your nose...

I needed that laugh today sally, thanks!
