Which would you pick: The Ford Focus RS or the Mustang GT?

Based off the segment in Episode 6 featuring Hammond driving a Mustang GT and Jezza driving a Ford Focus RS which one would you pick?

Re: Which would you pick: The Ford Focus RS or the Mustang GT?

Already owning two Mustangs I'd go with the Focus.  Also, if I could only have one vehicle it would be the Focus, because the AWD is extremely important where I live as snow and ice are a fact of winter, as are roads that don't get cleared either well or at all.  Compact AWD I4 turbo cars are a lot of fun to drive.  V8 RWD cars are too, but its a different experience.  The Mustang is a better car for some things, but the Focus is a better all around vehicle.

If I was in the market for a pocket rocket, it'd be a RS .... academic anyway, this post is a copy and paste of a 2 year old Reddit post.

Seemed fishy, but I do like bench racing as much as the next guy, so...

Yep, but the funny thing in this case is that I have both, a Focus RS and a Mustang GT. I'll keep my eyes open though...

And now the bodgey links have been added.
I've always wondered why the States never got the RS. I once owned an Oz built RS 2000 Escort, not the same spec as the German car ... but still quick for the period.

Deleted the bodgey links and will take care of the user later as I wanted to answer that IIRC the latest model Focus RS is available in the US.

Re: Which would you pick: The Ford Focus RS or the Mustang GT?

Its available here.  350HP w/AWD.  Compact hatchback.  If it was the size of my WRX wagon I'd own one already, but the back seat is about useless unfortunately.

The "A" in AWD means ALL, at least here in Europe... and if you take a look at your car there's usually four round black rubber thingies underneath and in contact with the ground and AWD means that all four of them (that makes the car move) are also connected to the car's transmission and engine.

BTW, have anyone ever seen a horse pushing a wagon?

Re: Which would you pick: The Ford Focus RS or the Mustang GT?

You gotta forgive them, Hakan.  They live where the slickest stuff on the roads comes from the south end of north bound cattle and as close as they get to ice is when the temp drops to 65 F with 95% humdidity.  I won't even attempt to get into the fantastic handling and cornering qualities of some AWD vee-hickles.

Now when I think about it it might actually be a good idea to have one horse in front of the wagon and one behind just in case and as a backup.

Re: Which would you pick: The Ford Focus RS or the Mustang GT?

Americans seem to be a lot like Ozzies, RWD V8s rule the roads.
Then you come up against a real hot hatch.
Not the typical ricer wannabe, with fart can exhaust, but something that sticks to the road like s**t to a blanket.... and launches like a slingshot.

Mitsubishi Evo 10 FQ 440 .... 440 bhp ....handles like a go-kart on rails. Factory warranty.

Get your -oh no I used a word I shouldn't have- handed to you in a straight line, even more so in the twisties, and even I hav'ta admit they're something special.

Re: Which would you pick: The Ford Focus RS or the Mustang GT?

A good AWD car like my WRX is extremely capable and confidence inspiring to drive right on the edge.  When it was still stock I turned better laps times than a Z06 Vette and a Porsche 911 with a roll cage at an AutoX event.  Now, with better suspension and another 80HP on tap it wouldn't even be close.  That blue wagon has embarrassed a lot of guys in much more expensive cars of all marques over the years.

Straight line I ran consistent 14.50s with it in the 1/4 stock, which was the same time I ran with my '89 GT when it was stock.  227HP vs. 225HP, and similar curb weights.  IMO it did for the turbo 4 AWD import what the Fox Mustang did for EFI; started a revolution that legitimized an entire segment of the automotive performance market.

212k on the clock and I still dare anyone to try and run back roads with it.  Thing's like a damn slot car.

Oh, and if you like the EVO, see if you can find that episode of Top Gear where they raced one against a Lambo and the guy spun the Lambo trying to keep up with it!

Re: Which would you pick: The Ford Focus RS or the Mustang GT?

My first car was a 59 Austin 850 in 1963.  I changed the engine to a MG100 that had been upgraded to ~100 hp.  It blew off most anything on the road and cornered like it was on rails. (They only weigh 1200lb)  That is until I did a 40mph corner at 42mph and totaled it.   That is why Mr Cooper built the mini Cooper.  One also won the Targa Florio once beating all the Ferraries and MB's.  Last march I ran into one in New Zealand that did 168 at Bonniville with an 1100cc turbo'd engine.

Front wheel drive can work just fine, and I will keep all my rwd cars too. That car was so much fun!.

Re: Which would you pick: The Ford Focus RS or the Mustang GT?

My BMW 430i is all wheel drive.  NOT FRONT wheel drive.  I have owned several front wheel drive vehicles, and swear I will never own another.  BMW is close enough, but at least the bias is REAR wheel driven.  When it is not in the shop!

Ya butt, that way when the rear drive craps out, the front part will still get you to the shop.
