I threw on the rear e-brake cables today and hooked them up to the Cobra calipers. I followed the factory routing on the 65 which is through the little “tunnel”’above the frame rail and below the floor plan and then went under the axle tube and up to the caliper.
Once I had both ends of the cables locked into their respective housings, the cables were resting up against the rim/tire. See pic below.
When using Cobra calipers and stock cable routing, how do you keep the cable off the rim/tire? Or should I abandon the factory routing and run the cables to the inside of the springs along the frame rail/floor on?

It has been a while since I did a 65, but I recall making some brackets to hold the cable away from the tire. Let's get Al McGee involved with this thread. I put Cobra rear brakes on his 65 about 4 or 5 years ago.

Yep, looks like a guide clamp/bracket would be the best solution. The Fox cars also have this problem. The SN95 cars fortunately solved it with a guide that bolts to the LCA, and also works on the Foxes since the LCAs are the same between the two generations.
Keep in mind that whatever you make needs to account for the fact that the cable is going to cycle up and down with the rear suspension. On trucks with leaf springs I've seen with ebrake cable guides where the guide basically traps the cable in a certain area, rather than holding it tight in one spot. The guide is bent from 1/4" diameter steel wire and the guide area is a rectangle hole much larger than the cable. This allows it to keep the cable off the tire, but doesn't cause a bind during suspension cycling.

Ok, it looks like Jkordzi re-purposed some brackets off the 05-14 brake cables on his car. That looks like it will work. Just need to see if I can find the brackets, or something similar, without having to buy the cables just to get the brackets!

Like Steve said we installed cobra brakes a few years ago and memory fades. I will crawl under my car tomorrow in the daylight and take some pics of the cable routing.

That'd be great. Appreciate it!

Hope these pics help. My cable comes out of tunnel between frame rail and floor pan, routed under axle next to spring U clamp and spot tied to U bolt as shown.

Thanks! That helps. Appreciate it.
