I DID THE 24 INCH RADIATOR CONVERSION ON MY 66 COUPE YEARS AGO AND I THINK IT IS STARTING TO WEEP A LITTLE.
1966 BLACK ON BLACK COUPE
289 WITH MUSTANGSTEVE CLUTCH CABLE CONVERSION AND 5 SPEED
MY QUESTION IS WHERE ARE YOU GUYS GETTING YOUR RADIATORS AND ALSO AT THE TIME I DID MINE THERE WAS NOT A DECENT SHROUD MADE FOR IT FIGURED SOMEBODY HAS RAN ACROSS SOME SINCE.
ALSO ARE YOU RECOMMENDING STOCK OR ALLUMINUM RADIATORS 2,3,OR 4 FLUE.

Take it to a good radiator shop. Just a little weeping is easy to fix. Do that and your other questions are immaterial. Radiators can be fixed any number of times before they need replacement.
If your radiator shop is any good at all, they can replace what you have quickly.

I drove all over south Dallas trying to find a radiator shop. The one I used to use was sold out and the 80 some year old guy finally retired. The closest radiator shop was 30 some miles away. The old radiator shops still leave their signs up but instead of fixen them they sell new ones. Fix it if you can. IMHO

Hello , if you have a 24 inch , means you are not so period correct ( minded) on your 66 . So you can choose any way : repair the old one , or go to aluminum . My choice about alu rad was due to overheating with ac kit add . Champion 3 row fits perfect and runs great . more than i suppose ! these was my money best spent ! obiously you can see it shining in your engine bay , and maybe you don't like , if you prefer stock look .
about 3 or 4 rows what i know is to stay on 3 . the 4 raw have little passage and need a bigger waterpump to let water circulate correctly . , then are expensive .
my two cents ? i am very happy with my new alu rad "
Online!
I ain't 'shamed to admit.............I 'd put some black pepper in it! You won't stop-it-up.

Or a can of stop-leak. If the rest of the cooling system is clean, it might give you some time to find the perfect radiator or it might just cure your problem. If the current one has been working well, replace like with like would be the easiest choice. I purchased a DeWitts 24" for mine. It is a pricey option but a quality piece. I have tried several fan shrouds on mine and none have fit well but I found one that is close. Is your outlet on the passenger or driver's side? If it is on the driver's side, I will try to find a part number on the shroud that works the best.

Not quite right. I put in a 4 core in1989 when I installed the 351w. It is still there and has been fixed a couple of times. It is good to over 100F on the stop & go fwys in socalif. is that about 38C?
At the same time, I would recommend a newer tech solution. Aluminum might be your best bet.

Years ago, I had a custom one made with three rows and a chromed top. It is the same dimensions as a stock 68 radiator, but it has 3 rows instead of two. It has cooled my 351W with no problems even without a shroud, but then we don't see a lot of 100 degree days in Seattle.

THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES GUYS....MY INLET AND OUTLET IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SO I THINK THAT MAKES IT A 68 MODEL STYLE RADIATOR...HAS ANYBODY RAN ACROSS A GOOD FITTING SHROUD FOR THEM? WHEN I SWAPPED IT OVER YEARS AGO THEY REALLY WAS NOT A GOOD ONE THAT FIT.

Billy, the 67-69 radiators in 24" clamp-in style, like mine, can use the stock 67-69 small block 289/302 shroud, and they are readily available. Use a 17" fan with stock diameter.
If you had the 24" 1970 radiator with the lower inlet on the driver side you would use the 1970 small block 24" shroud.

I WILL LOOK AROUND AND SEE WHAT I CAN LOCATE,
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
