I have a 351w in a 67. I installed a performer air gap intake thinking it was no big deal. However, the
top of the carb is even with the top of the cowl, so even though it may clear the shelby hood, I dont see how it would possibly clear an air cleaner. Does anyone have this set up? I have a feeling I'm going to change intakes, but didn't know if there was a way to get the engine lower to clear?

The air gap is about 1" taller than my Weiand. It would not fit o n my 66 without a scoop, but it would seem, logically speaking, that if a 428 CJ would fit in that car with a stock hood, the 351W should also, even with a taller intake. Looks can be deceiving if you look across the sight line at the top of the two fenders, it always appears the carb is way higher than it would seem to be able to fit.
Why not put the hood on and check it? You might be surprised how much room is under that hood. They are not flat across. The get higher in the center. Wad a towl up on top of the air cleaner so it is about 1/2" thick and carefully try the hood closure. If it closes, you are good to go.

That's what I thought. 351 shouldnt be an issue because 67 came w/ 390's. I'll try putting the hood on and see. My big concern is I still have an air cleaner to mount? I'll let you know how it goes.

I don't know about your Edelbrock Air Gap intake, but I have a 351W in my 68 with an Edelbrock Performer intake with an Edelbrock 1406 carb and a K&N filter with a drop base, and with my stock hood, there is no fitment problems.

Boy, I don't know? I took off the 1 inch spacer and the hood barely closes. The carb cleaner stud is just touching the hood, so I dont know how i can put an air cleaner on it? Im also running a DUI distributor, so the limits air cleaners even more. Any ideas, besides a match and gallon of gas? I just got the car out of an uncles shop, where very little was ever done to it, so Im going to be running into all sorts of suprises.

I can shorten the stud, but that's where I'm not sure how I can get an air cleaner on there?
Do they make any motor mounts that will lower eng. about inch or two?
