over drive

pedals are back in making progress, C6 is out ! The hard part with the pedals was getting the support out without tearing dash out. It can be done but you need pull the brake booster , In my case it needed replaced any way .

Re: over drive

Got the clutch cable installed bell housing flywheel and clutch on order. Also the yoke , Trying to make this as close to a wash on cost vs what parts I can sell , And I know that I will still come out  short of even , But so far every thing has gone well , Still trying to make a June deadline.

Re: over drive

An up date on progress, Found the lip on oil pan around main cap stuck out a bit causing clearance issue with fly wheel. Gently taped it over flat . Fly wheel pressure plate and bell housing are in.

Re: over drive

When starting this latest project my goals were and are to gain the advantage of over drive. After much research I went with a five speed , Next set of goals do this in a cost effective manner. I could have sourced a lot of parts from a junk yard with the exceptions being pedals flywheel and clutch parts. On the bell housing went with new parts no worries about stripped bolts or cracks. I have manged to sell all the C-6 parts , Still have the transmission mount .So will I break even no . At the present time I am about one third collected verses what I spent.

Re: over drive

Today my neighbor and I got the transmission installed .It was little slow going in would have been easier if the car was on a lift.Clutch cable hooked and easy on the leg.One question I find that the front bolts on the shifter are very close too frame rail in the transmission tunnel .Any issue if necessary for it to be trimmed a little ?

Re: over drive

If you have to actually cut into the crossmember I would make a cut and weld in a C shaped piece of metal the same thickness.  If its just into the flange of the crossmember and floorpan metal I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: over drive

Update on the T5 install . Transmission The front edge of shiftier box hits the hoop support that runs across the transmission tunnel . After much thinking on this I will trim the edge off the hoop. From reading this can be a issue on some conversions.I had thought about using a adjustable motor mount but that is another can of worms as far as other fitment and clearance issues .I used Modern drive line clutch conversion and pedal and leg feel are good. Used ford racing King Cobra clutch set. As far as the the cable I made a support plate where it loops to the bell housing to keep it from drooping down also insulated it.

Re: over drive

will attempt a photo .  The transmission sits forward of the original location , Had to open front up some so it would clear, Rear opening is the original opening, Building a cover plate for the opening to fill hole will have a rubber boot around shifter.

Re: over drive

There are a couple options, but they all do this.  The positioning is the result of how cars were built in the '60s vs. the '80s.  Engines, and therefore transmissions, have continually moved rearward in the interest of improving front to rear weight balance and safety.

The simplest solution is a longer stick with a rearward inclination.  Another option is to fabricate an offset bracket that bolts to the shifter and located the mount for the stick rearward.  Beyond that there used to be shifters that used a link bar to position the stick almost right between the seats.  Mustangs Plus used to sell these, but I don't think they do anymore.  I've been working on one for my car.  Such an arrangement will make using a factory console essentially impossible, at least not without considerable modification.

Re: over drive

Progress is good KM, have you taken it for a test spin? Since the money has already been spent, adding it up will only depress you
