I try my best rpm.
Used to live somewhat near you. Top of the Grapevine, past Frazier Park, all the way to the top of the mountain at 6,000 ft is Pine Mountain...one of the few full time residents for 5 years. Drove down to Bakersfield for shopping every so often.

On the topic of room for a clutch and fan, measure the thickness of the current elec fan and shroud to find out how much room that combo currently takes up. You may be surprised.
Also, if your new radiator is much thicker than your current radiator, the current fan setup may not fit either. Small block Ford water pumps also come in the long snout and short snout versions. Maybe there is space to be had with a water pump swap. Be aware of standard rotation and reverse rotation choices before you buy.
and... is that a 65ish Dart I see the hubcap for?

I know the area, as the crow flies it's not too far to Bako. My second ex still has a residential lot in Lake of the Woods.

You, MS & the others who've mentioned it are right of course. Although I never need a reason for my Malignant Procrastination, in this case I have one. In between several moves, the tools to check both have been MIA for some time. I could always borrow them or just drive somewhere & have the tests done.
I recently moved to my final Rest Home in a rural area & don't know anyone who would have them. I'll drop down to town & buy 'em. Thanks for pushing the issue (seriously).

You are a sharpie with the eyeballs. It's not a Dart (maybe the caps are), but a Ply Valiant SW. The car was my first oldie & am the second owner...Grandma was the first. The MuttiMobile, like my other 3 oldies, is restored & I drive it all the time. It's traveled 60k miles since I got it. Mutti was a beatnik & the car is the lowest trim version w/ 3 on-the-tree, AM radio. Only option is the HOT Slant-6!
Side note; #2 ex learned to drive a manual trans in this car....had to get a new clutch every year or two. She's history & so is changing the clutch.

Along those lines..BaT also liked my stuff. With my article on the Pony's ride home a favorite to win Best article of the year (got lot's of nice comments from members), I was already spending all the prize money I was sure to get.
Then a Mod criticized me for confronting a dealer's false representation of a vette at auction...I wrote, "Prove it". I was joined in that by another member who is a NCRS Judge. I lost faith in their ability to protect buyers & broke off contact....surprisingly, they didn't have the contest for that year.
'65 vette? B___'n.....oh wait I can't say that...neat! Have you posted a pic?

Figured it was a good day to get those MS'ers off me back.....head to town & buy a expensive, High Quality Timing Light. My first pick for the job was the vette, but as I approached, it's Voice Module said,
"I see the camera, you're not taking my pic in that parking lot"
"Being kind of elitist, ain't-cha "
"Do you want me to start the next time you want to cruise? Take Grandma"
Returning home I couldn't help but rub in what happened.
"See what you missed, Grandma got a compliment from a very pretty MILF (seriously), 'Oh, what a neat car' "

Don'tcha remember?...like you said, this being southern Calif., even HFs are cool....actually it's a very neat & clean shop, but I do feel guilty buying stuff there.

After 2 yrs of owning this car, bout time I took the air-cleaner off, eh?
WTH? Never seen a carb like this. The vacuum ports are capped except the PVC. What's electric type thingie on the left?
After researching, I learn (which all of you know already) that it's an electric choke, which I've never experienced before. I also find that the carb is a Edelbrock 1406 AVS & what seems to be it's matching manifold.
What have you guys got me into? My '66 vette has OEM Electronic Ignition, but since it's Dark Age Tech, it looks/works nothing like this.
Since I've got nothing else to do in life, I'll just spend several hours viewing videos, reading manuals, articles etc.....no prob...I'll be back.

Appears I don't have vacuum advance. Instead, I have this fancy Black Box & electronic distributor. Happy bout learning that, since I don't have to adjust it! The Mustang has always started right up, so the electric choke seems to be OK.
All right...all u sharpies can stop typing right now!...I wrote the above paragraph & then began to scratch my ba__s, I mean head. "That don't sound right"....back into research mode I went.

Frankly guys, this is getting way over my head. If I still enjoyed wrenching my oldies, I'd happily move on this, but at this point in life, I just enjoy driving them.
I'm committed to installing the new rad (which seems to have the same depth) & if the existing fan setup slides in w/o increasing the depth (as u can see in the photos, there's only about 1/4" of free space), I could see what the temps are & then move forward from there. I think the new rad will help, but I'm sure more will need to be done.
Before going on w/ the timing, etc, let me know your thoughts, flames, etc.
PS
On the photo of the MSD 6A, does anyone have a guess on what that unplugged brown wire is & where it belongs? Looking at the seller's auction photo's, one shows it pushed onto the screw w/ the 2 blue connectors on the right. Another has it unplugged like it is now.

Like with every single vintage used car I ever bought... as soon as you get it home, pull out a trash can and some side cutter pliers and start recycling all the POS that someone thought was a good idea at the time.

I did the wider aluminum radiator and cut the core support, I used a Taurus fan with integral shroud and a pgm

OK...where do I start?....anyone want a Good Look'n Hot Rod Mustang that the seller only drove for 400 miles........Oh, wait......I don't/won't sell my oldies. Seriously. I'm hanging on to them till they pry my cold dead fingers from my Drivers License.
