    65 coupe to high w/ new stock rear springs

    I just installed a set of stock 4 leaf rear springs from CJP  and tightened all the bolts with the car in stands under the axle and it now reads 17" to center, my 130K wore out springs were at 13-1/4. Thats 4 inches did I do something wrong? or is it going to come down when I start to drive it?

    1 Drive it.
    2 With weight on wheels loosen and retighten bolts.
    3 Bounce on it some.

    They should settle and loose some height with with driving.

    Thank you everyone, This is scary as it has the shocks at full extension . Should I drive with say 300-500 lbs of cement in the trunk for a week too?  I just cant believe new springs would do that, but i will try and drive it.

    Just wanted to ad that at this time my shocks are out all the way and I cant bolt up my rear sway bar because of the height. Is there a better source for stock replacement springs? Also the car is still on jack stands. 2 under rear axle and the 2 ft ones are behind the ft wheels where the frame gets ready to go up in the front.

    Was there a part number on the springs and can you post some pictures? Something seems to be off somewhere.

    OK everyone, I have learned that you cant measure while on 4 jack stands even thought the rear was on the axles.
    After putting the tires back on and lowering to the ground I learned it is 15-1/2  not 17. Still to height but much better. I thing I will drive around after I get the new front 620s.  I will put 250 lbs in the trunk and see if that helps while driving, if not we can ether add blocks or try removing the small spring. Ideas are appreciated please. as everyone has already done what I am now doing.

    Fill up the gas tank and drive it....the rear springs will settle.   Ever buy a new sofa? At first, you sat high on the cushions and after awhile, they settled......same concept....be patient..

    Unfortunately it takes a few months for the springs to settle in.

    If not happy in a few months. Take the springs apart and tweak the leaf's just a little in a press.

    definitely drive it around. Mine even POPPED hard on both sides after driving over bumps and shifting the  weight around going quick over ramps and such.. helped it settle. I got scared but it did that once on each side and never again..

    If it aint broke, I have'nt tried to "Fix" it yet!

    Wonder if you could jack it up (sorta "unload" the springs) and spray some graphite or lube in between the leaves....let it back down and see if that helps them slide and settle a little!?!

    Funny this thread is still going, I just cut the back open on my stang, added a new GMC tailgate with step to the rear. Now the springs will support anything I put on top of the fuel tank.
