Emergency Brake Cables needed.

I want to finally hook up my E-Brake and found that the original cables I bought from Mustang Steve years ago are internally corroded enough that the springs on the brakes and in front won't allow the E-Brake to release.

Went onto the MS website to buy a couple more and can't find them.

So Plan B. Has anyone bought some generic ones or specific ones that work fine. If so what did you buy?

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

Ed, I'm assuming you are speaking of rear Cobra brakes.  I bought a set of the Wagner cables for a 2003 Cobra from Rockauto for Jr's 66 (Christmas).  Fit was great.  Jr. did section a handbrake and tunnel from an 03 Mustang into the 66 tunnel too, so he eliminated the connection to the front cable/handle setup.  It's a 66 with a really functional parking brake!

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

I have what I believe are right and left hand cables that I bought before I went Lokar (added to the list of things I bought and never installed).  They are Raybestos BC94840 and BC95240.  If you pay the shipping they are yours.  I can probably get them out this afternoon.  But, you may be able to find these locally at a parts store.  It will probably be $15 to $20 to ship and Summit lists the Dorman equivalents for $15 each.  Let me know here or in a message.

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

MustangSteve has the generic cobra cables.  Email info@mustangsteve.com
I bought some new 2015-2018 Ford cables for my truck's 2018 rear discs on RockAuto for cheap!

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

I have the Baer tack kit with 13" rotors on rear of my 67 and need cables. Baer sells a set for it for $130. Ouch.

I know a lot of the stuff Baer sells is like the PBR calipers that interchange with lots of other cars so I'm wondering if a different cable would work that doesn't cost as much. Below is a pic of how they attach to caliper. anyone know if there is a factory cable that will work with this?

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

The 2015 and newer Mustang cables have ends like those.

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

yesterday I replaced my E brake cables with ones from Ecklers parts.. They hooked up perfectly .. and were just the right length..
Part number I ordered is 44-38364-1
alternate part number : C5ZZ-2A635-DE
If you want original ones, I have non-corroded original ones that came out of my car (cables are stretched a bit though LOL)

hope this helps

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

Mochaman- what Mustang are the cables going in?

I had Bruin make up a set for me that works with the cobra swap on a 71-73

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

Cables are for the a 65. I have the original ones I bought through the MS website installed. They fit, but prone to corosion from lack of use. I see the platic coated ones and wonder if they are better. Last year I tried to replace them from the MS site and didn't see them. I thought they had sold out for some reason. Josh-kebob is correct they are there on the website. Comparing the housing lengths and cable lengths between the one on the MS site and the one GPatrick listed. GPatricks are much longer. Not sure I have the room for the longer housing.

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

It is easier to make a long cable shorter than the opposite!  But if there is a direct fit that would be easier.

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

Thanks for the info MS. I was hoping to find a cable that would work without paying $130 for Baer cable. I know a lot of their parts they are just using PBR or other manufactures so I figured some manufacture would have something that would work.  Looks like the 2015 cable may be $60 for a pair.  So if the caliper end is the same I just have to hope the length is close enough and that the other end will work.

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

MS, Does it matter what model 15-18 the cable comes from?  gt or v6?  I saw you used these for your truck. Do you think there would be any issue using them in a 67?  I see Rock auto has both sides for a GT for about $30 total,

Re: Emergency Brake Cables needed.

I do not know if all models use the same cable. I ordered for a GT.

Well- if you decide to go full thermonuclear and have custom cables made here is a link that may be of use.
