Looks like it's based on the T5 design and even has the 2.95 first gear. I'd be curious if it has straight cut gears in order to handle that much torque.

It doesn't look as beefy as a TKO 500 or 600.

From what I've read its basically a clean sheet design, definitely more of an old style based on the case. The T5 and Tremecs have all been designed with lightweight castings where there are a lot of ribs allowing for strength in critical areas and weight savings in non critical areas. This has a case that looks more like a Muncie 4 speed.
I remember when they first came out, and researched them, and all I found were scathing reviews. Lots of people with broken trannies and it seemed no real desire on McLeod's part to remedy the problem. Basically they were hiding behind the whole "race parts used for racing, no warranty" disclaimer. While I certainly get that, the trans shouldn't break in a street driven car with 350HP, and there were a lot of people that seemed to be in that boat. To me that's indicative of a design or manufacturing flaw. One idiot breaks his, fine. Out of 20 guys griping I'm betting most weren't idiots.
