Little Rock to Canyon Lake 11 hours. Then a huge rainstorm east of Austin that got all the bugs rinsed off.
Added seven quarts of oil over 3,100 miles. Hopefully it is the baffles!

MS sounds like engine rebuild time, I have a real nice set of Diamond Pro 21cc dished pistons that'll help Ya get started.

These are 4.125” bore pistons. I doubt anything else would fit. If I had installed the pistons backwards, I would have wound up seven quarts over-full!
I am HOPING the problem is valve cover baffles. I had done some percussion engineering on them when I put the new cam in there to get them to fit without spacers. I am going to install some different valve covers and see if it changes anything. The engine has 20,000 miles on it now. Most on bash trips. It has been to Tennessee, Illinois and Michigan, as well as some closer to home.
If it does require a rebuild, it will have to wait until the 56 F100 is completed and the new shop is built. I can live with the oil consumption until then.

What sort of gas mileage did you get Steve?
Offline
I got 19.5 mpg when cruising at normal 75 mph. Dropped to under 17 when cruising at 90 mph. Uses more oil at that speed, too!
I think 19.5 is fantastic mileage for a 66 with a 427 and 3.70:1 rear gears. The TKO600 overdrive tranny, while noisy, still has a good overdrive ratio. That does the trick!

How many miles to the quart did you get?

You must have some great roads down that way. There's no way in hell you could go 90 mph on the roads we have up our way.

So I've thought the real question should be how many gallons per hour are we getting.
