More mirror info for Nos681...

I didn't want to hijack Stevo's mirror thread but I had some questions about my mirrors from Nos681 (Dan).

My mirrors are 80's Fox Vert or Escort GT.  They are "Flag" design  and give decent rear view and electric adjustability while not (in my opinion) detracting from the classic lines of the car.
This is not an uncommon swap on the early mustangs and I first noticed them at our first bash in Waxahachie, TX where Billy Walton's coupe and Glen B (Glens 65 5.0) had them.  
When I did the "major" to the Heap from Jan. 2013 to Aug. 2015 I decided to try to come up with some way to have power mirrors since Jean occasionally drives the car.  I reviewed the pix I had of the cars mentioned above and generally liked the mirrors but I wasn't completely happy with the way they mounted.  My cousin, who is very good at aesthetics said he thought they would look better if I mounted them to the top of the door...like the stock mirrors...rather than on the side like they were designed to mount...and I had to agree.
So like everything else we modify on these cars, it became a major project.

I disassembled the mirrors and, with double-faced tape and 80 grit sand paper, recontoured the plastic mirror bodies to set in the stock location on the door.  Then I re-engineered the pot-metal mirror frame and mount system to accommodate the new shape of the mirror body.  I also made back-up plates that go under the door skin.

I was careful to keep the top of the mirror bodies square with the car and each other.  One of the things I didn't care for on other installations was that the mirrors tend to "point down".
In the end I'm vert happy with this setup.  They give good rear vision, are "tight to the body", don't move due to road bumps, and are power adjustable.  They also don't seem to "jump out" at you.  In fact, I've had very few comments about the mirrors.  It's like most people don't notice them, or at least are not put off by them.
The only thing I would do differently would be to mount them an inch or so further back on the door.to get a better angle.  As it is with my driving position I have to have the left mirror all the way "out" to get the view I prefer.

I like those BB! They seem to look the part.
Only thing for me would be that I would have to fill up some screw holes and paint match the new mirrors.
I think this might be worth considering next time I have to grace the car with a spray gun.
